The Iowa Hawkeyes will be taking on the LSU Tigers in the 2014 Outback Bowl. It was an exciting and surprising season of Iowa football and the Hawkeyes are returning to one of their most favored bowl destinations, the Outback Bowl in beautiful Tampa, Florida. This will be Iowa’s 4th trip to the Outback Bowl and the Hawkeyes have always represented well in this contest, both on and off the field. When Iowa fans come to Tampa, they invade the city.
HawkeyeNation.com will be teaming up with the Iowa Alumni Association for this trip, the fourth consecutive bowl trip we have worked together on dating back to the 2010 Orange Bowl. We will also be using PrimeSport, which is a new name but the same excellent company I have been working with dating back to the 2004 Outback Bowl (formerly Premiere Sports Travel).
This year, services will be exclusively out of Cedar Rapids; there will be no Des Moines option with this package. But it’s a short drive over to the Cedar Rapids Airport and you’ll travel in Rock Star style, rolling onto the tarmac and onto private busses which whisk you to perhaps the finest and most convenient property you can stay at while in Tampa for a bowl game; the Mariott Waterside Hotel. It’s just across the street from the convention center where the Hawkeye Huddle will be held and a short walk and shorter trolley ride to the popular nightlight spot, Channelside. The Florida Aquarium is right next door as well, as is a movie theater complex. The trolley outside the hotel will take you to Ybor City if you wish, another excellent nightlife location.
This will be the first time HawkeyeNation will have stayed at this property, but it’s been home to the Alumni Association for every Outback Bowl trip. While we’ve had nice properties, nothing can match the Mariott-Waterside for the mix of excellence and convenience.
