College BB looking to change rule on charge/block

let see what kind of team wisconsic is next fall. how many t`s can bo get when he realized he cant use floppers as an excuse

Whether you want to call it new or not, the point is it will be called differently. Which is great because it was atrocious last year.

The thru the chest deal is all about flopping. I saw countless charges called his past season where the defender thru his chest out, while still moving laterally, drew contact, and went down like he was shot, and drew the call. And there is always the old favorite of dealing with a player posting them up by throwing their chest forward, making contact, and flopping backwards like the offender made the contact first.

Time to go back to the old rule...feet set, body squared, resulting in full straight on contact, not glancing blows augmented by leaning or any of that crap. The old head and shoulders rule for a block. If an offensive driver gets head and shoulders ahead of the defend, there is no charge, period.

Does anyone remember the Big Ten trying an experimental rule that made flopping a foul. I have a memory of Illinois' Doug Altenberger being called for flopping. But then again, I may have been halucinating.

The problem is that almost every time someone goes down, the whistle blows and the ref has three tenths of a second to either call a block or a charge, but there are many instances where it is just some contact and prolly not enough to warrant a call either way. To remedy the problem, after the whistle, the ref should have the ability to call some sort of flopping/delay of game type call. Maybe you give the player or or team one warning, and then you start tee-ing guys up. If they don't do that, they are going to turn the damn sport into soccer, but the threat of a T will stop the flopping immediately. Sure, a guy like Aaron White would actually have to learn how to play defense as well as Shurna does, but I think it would be best for the game in the long run.

JHHawk, I'm an official. I attend both NCAA and NFHS meetings and clinics annually. I can tell you with 100% certainty that "through the chest" has nothing to do with flopping. It's a term that describes a philosophy by which many officials attempt to differentiate between a block and a charge. The basic concept here is if the contact is through the defenders chest he must have been there first therefore that was a charge.
