Little Lick doesn't turn it over much, I'll give him that, but other than that he makes NO plays, he can't drive and score or drive and kick like Cully. Once the defence puts any pressure on him he looks to get rid of it. He is not an effective defender, not very athletic and simply should not get these minutes.
This coach is really putting himself in a big hole IMO. Looks very self serving playing John these minutes.

You play the players that are your future Shane. These are games that those type of kids need in order to grow.. I don't care if they had zero assist in the second half with Payne playing the bulk of the minutes. The bottomline is he needs to be on the court.

Maybe Lickliter looked at Paynes line in the first half and decided that a change of pace was needed. Payne wasn't exactly lighting it up out there in the first half.

I know that 40. I was commenting on the 2 things not being tied together. I'm watching the press conference to see if he addresses any of the odd playing time moves.

Payne has averaged between 30-35 minutes a game every game for the last 6, and today he had 28. He didn't play well today. No one did.
Iowa doesn't give any effort, can't hit any open shots, generally plays like ****, and your main complaint is how many minutes Lickliter gets? C'mon.

Sure I could see this on a team that has postseason hopes. Also could see this if it was an upperclassman that was struggling. Payne is the starting point guard for 8-14 Iowa as a Freshman. Let him take his lumps. The bottomline is Lick is not the future Point Guard of this program. Well atleast I hope not, unless Coach Lick sees something we all don't.

Boy haven't seen Cougill have any inside game all year. That was a left field comment. Cole is not polished, but he is relentless on the glass and a pretty good defender.
