Coker rumors

Of course, Jon is correct when it comes to taking direct quotes from premium articles.

However, taking INFORMATION from a pay site and then discussing/posting it...is in no way, shape or form a violation of the law.

Do you actually believe someone can post something on the internet and then impose a legal sanction to prevent people from discussing the information?

No way in hell. The ethics of this are another issue...but in terms of legality, unless you have some sort of court ordered sanction...once information is given, you cannot tell people what to do with it.

Unless i missed a post I do not think anyone has questioned it being a legal issue.

I didn't want to read all of this, but I talked to Jim Poggi and he said Coker was coming for sure and that his facebook 'statuses' were about Dematha. So no worries anyone!

Jon, this thread is why I love this site. People sharing good information without any hidden agendas. On TOS there are some strange posters who babble about nothing and the reliability of the info is questionable. People post here because they like your analysis and work and enjoy the discussions without fear of revealing privileged/paid information. Most posters are educated enough not to cut and paste certain paid information, but to summarize it, which is perfectly acceptable and legal. the most important fact is Coker is coming and Iowa football fans will have a few more good years to cherish. I am not an expert but he is something special to watch and reminds me of a young Mr. Green. I can not wait till next season. Go Hawks.

iahawk20...when you stated that another poster should be "careful" about posting information from a premium site...that seems to imply that you believe there is a "danger" to the poster doing this. The only "danger" I could imagine a message board poster facing would be a legal one. Perhaps that's not what you meant when used the word "careful"...if so, my error...but it seemed to be a logical assumption.

If I see something on ESPN should I not post it here?

ESPN is a pay channel that I have to pay extra for in order to view it. I will try an refrain from posting anything that I see on ESPN as it is a "Premium Channel" that I pay for and others may not be paying for. I guess the same goes for the NFL network. Sorry Mediacom viewers.

You can talk about it but you can't put it on YouTube. Just don't copy and paste premium stuff here and there will be no problems. Paraphrasing is just simply going to happen

I pay for the newspaper, regrettfully so.

... people still do that?

The fact is most high school kids are not compelling interview subjects, and many recruiting updates are full of filler, like high school stats, etc. I think talking to HS coaches has been more rewarding as far as content goes.

Jon I think you are right on that, those HS kid (and even a lot of college player) interviews are not very compelling to read. But when you are talking "rewarding recruiting content" nothing beats the days of SuperHawkeye.com, 0044 and his inside source "the Shadow" :)

All I can say is that it is very difficult to "police" information. You probably chose the correct route to establish a site funded by advertisment.
