Coker is clearly tired and yet McCall sits

No, I'm not putting Weinke in because I have confidence and trust with JVB...that's the point with McCall. If I'm willing to play him at all, that means he's earned it with his play in practice. He makes a mistake and I bench him and wear down my already gassed #1 back.

KF has issues with this and always has. He is way too amped about playing freshmen. For God's sake, he had Paki ahead of Arob and Wegher against UNI. How'd that work out. Herman and Derby ahead of CJ. Who looks better to you?

So Jake Christensen was the starter for a year and a half, he obviously earned it so we should just stayed with him instead of going to Stanzi?

You guys are weak minded people. "oh give the guy another chance" boo who, he ****ed up, you don't get another chance in a close game if youndo that.

No freshman is gunna earn the right to play when you have an all big 10 back in front of you and you come in and cost the team 3 or 7 points.

Turning it over In The red zone is a sin in football.

Name me a running back, quarterback, TE, punt returner/kickoff returner or WR at Iowa who hasn't fumbled in games.

Thought so.

Weak minded?? Seriously why do people got to be such ***** when replying?
My goodness does it make you feel big and strong or smarter when you do it??

Last time I checked they beat UNi still, and the Paki experiment didn't
Last but 1 week.

I agree Droid and there is no doubt in my mind that McCall got raw deal yesterday. I'm willing to bet McCall was none to pleased these last 2 to 3 weeks. 2 carries since being cleared?? Pathetic. What that Staff did to him yesterday was terrible, he should have been giving the chance to get back in. There was PLENTY OF MISTAKES happening by all yesterday.. Sad if you ask me.

LOL

How dare they give him an opportunity to score a TD!!! Given just how poorly the game was going that is even more reason for KF to fall back on his most trusted back. MM will get plenty of chances in the future. If MM wouldve came in and fumbled again many fans would be calling KF an idiot. Tough to win with such a fickle fan base. Seems like many people on this board were hoping for a loss

Just trying to make a point, its obvious you guys wanna give everyone a bunch of chances in tight conference road games.

They won the game and all you guys do is ***** about Kirk, it is really sad.

At some point the players have to perform, MCcall committed a cardinal sin yesterday, and you make it seem like Kirk is a fool for not letting him play again

Bottom line...McCall is more of an open field guy....running him in the redzone at 190 pounds isn't the best call by the coaches.

I bet everyone loved when Wegher went in on the 2 or 3 yard line and jumped over the line to score. You guys don't know what the your talking about.

How much did Wegher weigh 180?

You "experts" all amaze the hell out of me! Have any of you ever played sports at ANY level? I don't care if its peewee football or the pros - you have to EARN your spot and the coach's trust every single day! When your opportunity does arrive, you'd better be ready or you're going to lose the opportunity - that's exactly what happened. McCall wasn't up to the task - yet - doesn't mean that he won't be someday in the future if he works hard and earns the coach's trust again.

You have no idea what McCall does in practice, how he participates in drills, the classroom etc. Maybe you're all just really young and expect equal output without equal input - you want your parents standard of living without your parents hard work, responsibilities, etc. You know - the "occupy" crowd.

By the way - Coker had a hell of a day and we WON!! Bring on the Cornholers!!

Don't forget Paki starting ahead of Shonn Greene in '08 or brad banks/ kyle mcann. Aaron Greving/ Fred Russell. The list goes on and on and on. Hayden Fry new how to handle players emotions and make every player feel like he was a star in waiting. This staff gets an absolute F when it comes to handling people and players. They almost use these kids as cop-outs for their own inadequacies. I'm too scared to play these young guys because I have a veteran. Now when that veteran goes down I have a built-in excuse because we're now "green".

Listen, coaches. You had your chances in 4 games early this season you prepare your youth. You chose to instead play veterans with clearly less talent and now when you need talent, that talent has emotional instability. The pressure is high now, so it's a bad time to "figure out what you have".
Case in point:

I'm willing to bet a substantial amount of money on this (of course its hypothetical)

Last year against OSU, I clearly thought Marcus Coker was head and shoulders above Arob. Coker finally gets in the game and what happens? 3 plays later, we're on the 1 yard line and then we pull him for Arob. And then we don't go back to him til later in the game. There is no excuse for losing that game last year. NONE. And because of how we used Coker, or didn't use him, it ended up having a mental tole on Coker when we needed him to step up and carry the load when Arob went down.

These kids are friggin 19 years old and you don't think psyche plays a part?
Let's take another look at Shonn Greene. When he stepped on the field as a freshman, I thought "oh my god". Running people over in his first chance. Once the conference season, he got the Ken O'keefe treatment and we forgot all about him. That was 2005. Remember that year? 7-5 Outback bowl loss? And then the next season, he's still buried on the bench and then he gets hurt. 2006 we go 6-6 and lose alamo? Then he quits the team and goes juco. 2 years later when he comes back, Paki O'meara starts the first game or 2 in front of Shonn Greene? You mean 2nd round NFL draft pick and Iowa rushing record holder Shonn Greene was listed as a back up to Paki Omeara?

There are some GLARING issues over the last 13 years that makes me want to rip my hair out.

And I'm sure i'll get this response so I'll head it off. Yes I'm aware that in 05 and 06 we had Albert Young and Damien Sims who were both solid college running backs and Albert even went on to NFL practice squads.

My point is I just don't understand how our coaches don't seem to be able to see the talent on their own team. They recruited these guys. They wanted them for some reason. I think there is way way way too much favoritism within the team. Coaches are playing guys they like instead of guys that should be playing.

Another case in point: CJ Fedorawicz....do I need to say anything here? Like why does it take 17 games into this guy's college career for him to be utilitzed? Because you like Brad Herman? Why? I'm sure they're all nice kids. Your job is to put talent on the field and coordinate that talent into a cohesive machine that isn't always misfiring. Allow that talent to flow effortlessly. Allow players to play to their strengths and it's also your job to hide their weakness. Our staff says, we don't care about you knowing our weaknesses. And we also don't care what your stengths are. Stubborness

you sir, are clearly a moron. You make my arguments for me. Why the hell was Paki in there in the first game? Because KF was puckered up about playing freshman. It lasted one game because even KF realized it was moronic, yet he still did it due to his issue.

Something you should ask Kirk, Paki probably earned it from Kirks view over his career.

I agree with you in the point that Paki wasn't good.....but we won the game so I don't see the real reason to ***** about it n

I don't see any cases since them where this has been an issue. Herman was pretty good last year and CJF had some blocking issues that he admitted he had.

Obviously now CJf is blocking well and starting.

CJF admitted that he was being lazy and inconsistent in practices and was way to cocky coming into Iowa, that's why he wasn't playing. The coaching staff saw it as well and he sat behind less talented players who played every down in every practice. Let's just be thankful he realized he has to be all in....because he has future star written all over him. It's great to see JVB having that size an athlete to throw to.

My guess is Kirk isn't seeing the all in effort from the other players that we are wanting to see even when they have more physical gifts. Our amazing recruiting class in the 2000's all seemed to fizzle because of that exact mentality. Respect isn't given, it's earned and I admire our coaching staff for it. CJF will be that much better for it, and will have a great NFL career thanks to the hard work pays off that was instilled in all of our Iowa players.

How about starting sleeper over JB? Kirk loves him some good walk on stories

It's laughable. Iowa has either the best or 2nd best running attack in the Big Ten, yet you have some delirious fans calling for a freshman running back to get more PT.
Crazy. Some fans will never realize how fortunate they are, I guess.

Kirk obviously is giving respect to this kids and giving an opportunity to play against an FCS opponent. Its 1 game and its an FCS team!

I'm sure he appreciates the factthey have worked hard to walk on and make the team better. Jesus its not like Iowa has lost games because he has had some alk ons play in the first game of the year

You guys are unreal
