Coker is clearly tired and yet McCall sits

Kirk obviously is giving respect to this kids and giving an opportunity to play against an FCS opponent. Its 1 game and its an FCS team!

I'm sure he appreciates the factthey have worked hard to walk on and make the team better. Jesus its not like Iowa has lost games because he has had some alk ons play in the first game of the year

You guys are unreal

That's great and all if you're a junior high coach. When you're a college coach you START your best players then play the guys who try real hard later in games. And we should have lost the uni game solely because he played Paki. I remember the big ten network ripping on him because all the huge holes he missed. Kirk has a serious problem with trusting players and there are many examples throughout the years that show him going with experienced players over talented ones

JB was the backup at 3/4 secondary positions at the beginning of the year if I recall correctly.

The bottom line, why wasn't he on the field? To teach him a lesson because he wasn't working hard enough?

Have we mentioned Jake Christianson yet? We lost at Pitt due to Kirk's gut feeling for the second half. Even though Jake was 2-10 in the first half or something like that.

The announcers at that game were so confused when Christianson came trotting out in the 2nd half. Their reaction to it was pretty funny but i was to pis*ed at the time to laugh

Man Kirk just sucks. Best decade of football in Iowa History.

FIRE EVERYONE!

your response here is kind of like Kirk saying after a loss to Minnesota "players didn't execute". Or "Minnesota is a great team."

Why be accountable when you can just take the easy way out?

Brilliant point.

I know when I think of Kirk Ferentz, the first thoughts that spring to mind are "easy way out... unaccountable... blames others..."

And certainly, execution is overrated. It's the schemes, baby. Those schemes dropped McNutt's TD pass, schemes blew the contain on MSU's touchdowns, schemes caused Vandy's passes to flutter, schemes caused guys not to pick up blitzes, schemes caused McCall to fumble.

I look forward to more insights. You could call them "Thoughts from the Short Bus"

part of the mccall deal is that he didnt get the reps against the bad teams like he would have. and if he'd gotten those then kf would find it easier to get him in and trust him. people forget mccall came in because of cokers fumbling and if mccall doesnt get hurt coker would have stayed sitting to teach him a lesson about ball control because of how mccall was running. but obviously in b10 games kf is not going to go to some unknown commodity. and i dont blame him. mccall can do all he wants in practice but coker does it in big games and until mccall does it in pointless opponent games he wont trust him in big games. next year i think coker will get 20 to 25 carries and mccall will get 10 a game. if you think it is easy for kf to only use 1 back look at his career at iowa. even when he had greene he used 2. this is not how the coaching staff wants to do it. btw to people that say greene would have had 250 and all that i believe coker already has more 200 yd games than greene did in his career. marcus is fast enough.

Greene would have gotten 250 yesterday. Coker isn't even in the discussion with Shonn Greene at this point. Not even close. Greene punished people just as much as Coker does, but Greene housed runs. Coker hasn't housed a long run all season and he's had numerous chances...3 come to mind against Minnesota. If Greene had a crease, he was through the hole and he juked people or punished them. The cuts Greene used to make compared to the running in sand change of direction from Coker is no contest. Coker is great when he gets it going North and South, but the wide stuff isn't his strong suit.

Ask chip kelly if schemes have anything to do with production. Keep your head in the sand where it belongs.

coker has been running quite well to the outside. he has been getting a lot of 10+ yd gains off of the stretch run (which is a zone play where the back aims for the te or outside of the te). does coker have homerun speed, no. but he is our best and the only one that the coaches believe in. if mccall hadnt gotten hurt then they would have confidence in him. but since he got hurt they cant just send him in against these teams because of what little he has seen. look at how marcus struggled because of his injury last year. he struggled blocking and with how much we have to pass we need him to block. i dont think coker is better than greene and i do think we need a second back but at this point in the year you cant mess with it and try to get someone going in this competition level. stick with coker and go back to our 2 back system next year. coker and mccall could look close to the greene and hampton combo from a few years back. i think mccall is very much like hampton and coker is a bigger greene without as much speed. like the combo but now isnt quite the time to start it because of the injury.

I dont think anyone ever said that Coker was as good as one of the best RBs in Iowa FB history
