This staff is TEACHING HIM NOTHING. Pathetic.
Fumble in the red zone and you will continue setting. Maybe they are teaching him something...

yeah, let's put the savior of iowa football back in. maybe we'll surprise the big 10 and win it all with his efforts. whoops......he fumbles. fire ferentz.
true freshman comes in and fumbles, and you have coker...yeah hes not going to play anymore. I wouldn't have put him back in either in a close game.
Clearly this poster knows football.
I don't know what game everyone was watching, but Coker looked a step or two slow yesterday. I love it when everyone tries to compare him to Shonn Greene. Greene would have had 250 yards in that game yesterday. Any college back needs to be spelled. We haven't done that in how long? 10 games?
IMO, Canzeri would have been perfect yesterday with the quickness...but where is Johnson? If KF benched McCall, why not Johnson. You have to give Coker a series off a few times a game at least.
Yeah, I knew Canzeri didn't make the trip, but if you won't play McCall because of the fumble...play someone else. My god, they practice every day for the game. KF's butt is so puckered up in close games it's beyond me.
Guess what, the conservative approached hasn't worked in 8 of the last 10 close games we have played. What do we have to lose at this juncture. Who knows, maybe McCall comes back in and breaks a big run to make up for the mistake.

Here's the deal folks and keep in mind that I was calling for Coker last year about 3 games in to be the starter and btw, anyone still think Arob is better than Coker?
Every good team in the country uses 2 and 3 running backs. EVERY SINGLE GOOD TEAM. Why do you think that is? Here it is. You have your workhorse but you also have some young guys typically. So you play them as much as possible in the early games. You give them confidence. You make them feel like once they get their chance, they will be a thousand yard back. That way, when your workhorse needs a blow, you have fresh backs come in and they're thinking "it's show time".
However, by refusing to use them early in the season and in good situations early on, you create doubt in their minds. What happens if Coker goes down right now? We have a bunch off scared and shaky running backs. Anyone remember how Coker looked against Minnesota last year?
What you have to look at with each and every kid, is how much can we get out of this guy? Once you have a feel for that, it's up to the coaches to make that kid believe he can do more. I want freshman running-backs feeling like they should be starting, because when they get in there, they play to their ability.
Coker is the workhorse. He's a 230lb solid man. Why do you sit him inside the 10 yard line to bring in a guy that you claim has been healthy for 3 weeks and yet haven't played him. You've created doubt in the kid's mind and now when he gets a chance, he forgets to tie his shoes(figuratively speaking).
I guarantee you, that either Johnson, Bullock, Canzeri or McCall will be gone after the season. You need to spread the cheese. You need to keep kids interested in the program.
And by spreading the cheese, you make Coker feel like every play is crucial and he performs even better.
Or maybe he comes back in and fumbles again leading to a purdue score...
or maybe JVB throws and interception or maybe Guthrie goes to punt and puts his foot in someone's arse. If the guys has earned the playing time in practice you play him and live with the mistakes. Do you think McCall was saying, "gee coach, I'm just not ready". I don't think so.
Droid's post was right on. Not playing him is a destroyer of confidence and a betrayal of trust in your player.
