What coaching changes do you want to see

I think Norm retires on his own, but I wouldn't demand to see that. I am not convinced the defensive scheme is the problem.

I can't support KOK as anything more than a grad assistant in this program any longer however.

I like Norm, but he needs to go. He is no longer apart of the recruiting process which is showing. We need someone who can pick up some good talent for our D. I'm sure most coaches can run the vanilla base D if that is what Iowa still wants to do, but someone else might bring an even better scheme to the table.

But once again, I really appreciate what Norm has done and I think he is a hell of a coach. I just think his health is making it too hard for him.

I agree. And there is no shame in reaching a point health wise that it makes more sense to sit back and watch.
Norm has earned that and he should be helped to realize that.
No one says he has to clear out his locker per se but he needs to relax and take care of himself so we(and his family) can enjoy him for as long as possible.

This is easy... KOK must go. No hesitation about this at all.

Norm probably 'should' retire but if we wants to keep going I give him the benefit of the doubt. I think we all can evaluate that despite the Defense being bereft of talent this year, the guys played hard and actually improved over the season and became quite serviceable!

The offense on the other hand was nothing less than a complete embarrassment.

I have never really been in the fire KOK camp and I know KF certainly has a hand in what KOK gameplans, but jeesh! We had/have pretty dang good talent on offense and our game plan at PSU and NEB were complete head-scratchers. Really most of the year was wierd.

We knew our D was going to suffer a setback, but they played well enough every week except MSU for this offense to win. We could score 21+ on NEB, MN and PSU if we just stop playing not to lose and actually make them defend us.

Actually if the O would have done anything at all in the first half of MSU that game might have been different too.

Edit: Oops, I've gave away my vote.

I love kirk to death, but Norm isn't able to perform at the level that a Division 1 defensive coordinator should anymore. The guy can barely walk, it's really sad to see. Norm SHOULD leave on his own, for his sake. And KOK....just has so many bonehead playcalling things, I have no issue with our offensive philosophy....it's just our playcalling makes me want to go  And playcalling is not really Ferentz's game day responsibility, maybe on huge plays or something but not really.

So...

My suspicion is confirmed.

People don't want to see KF go, but they do want to see major systemic changes within the program.

I think with if Norm retires, it increases the odds that Kirk parts ways with KOK to have fresh faces.

The offense is one place where I would like to see us hire from within. I'd like to move Soup to OC and still have him coach the WR and then bring in Chuck Long as QB coach.

Not necessarily true. All of your choices have major systematic changes, so by voting for any option, it confirms your suspicion. You needed a choice of KF stays along with both coordinators staying

I always enjoy threads like these……

Let me ask did we have good game plans in the games we won…..?!?

And are you aware Norm hasn’t been on the road recruiting in 100 years and we have had more NFL talent than ever…?!

Also do you think the reason Oklahoma lost to TT & Baylor was because of scheme and game plan..?!? For the record I do know their fans want their DC fired, you know the same guy who won assistant of the year pretty recently….suddenly his scheme and game plan suck….funny how that happens isn’t it?!

Or for that matter do you think Okie St lost to ISU because of bad scheme and play calling…?!?

Or how about Texas….lost 11 games now in 2 years….probably just scheme and play calling, eh…?!?1

Just curious…..in fact would you say the reason any team losses is probably just bad scheme and play calling right..?!?

Hi Chad -

What I would say is that Oklahoma expects National Championships every year and has won one in the last decade.

Point is, they've lost 2 games and they are in fire people mode. As soon as we get to that point, let me know... until then trying to compare the situations is like trying to compare me to Bon Jovi or The Coug.

Kirk needs to shake things up this offseason. We need new blood ... You can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results ... I am all for Kirk running the ship ...

After the display the offense put on this season KOK probably needs to go. I think Norm will prob retire soon but he just won the Asst. Coach of the Year award and the D wasn't poor even with all the new starters this year so replace KOK and gimme someone who will open up this playbook.

Sorry not working....they were simple questions and there were several of them.

Did they lose because of scheme & play calling, very simple, yes or no?!?!

Chad

Ps……as far as I can remember Bobby has never fired an assistant and their fans never like any of them. Including Chuck Long, Kevin Wilson, Bret Venables, his brother, etc……

Then I have a question for you........when we lose is it because we did the same thing and when we win is it because we did something different?!
