I picked KF by default. Campbell I think is a good coach but looking for a stepping stone and don't see him being a long term guy. While you couldn't kick me in the nuts enough times to even stomach the idea of voting for Frost or Fleck. IF BF has to come with KF I choose to a 3 yard route into traffic knowing I'm 5 yards from the curb.

While i disagree and think Campbell will be in Ames for at least the next few years, would it be so bad to get that stepping stone coach if it meant 2-3 BIG titles in 5 years? I know stability is the goal, but it doesnt mean everything.

Still take Kirk here. None of these other guys are proven long term. Though I did like Fleck's press conference after the Penn St win. He does have some fire right now.

Are you saying KF tears down his players and throws them under the bus in public?? KF rarely rarely does this. Last year when he mentioned Shawn Beyer by name on the postgame show after Beyer booted the punt against Wisky was very rare. And KF was even a little joking about it saying he couldnt imagine what Beyer was doing and thinking.

No I did not state or infer that. I would keep KF as coach until he retires on his own accord. You can go back and read my history on here in that regard.

It is nice to have someone who is an Iowan. KF has been here long enough now that is what and who he is.

While I agree that the future is bright for Campbell. I simply don't see any of those coaches getting us 2-3 Big Titles in 5 years. I agree that stability is the goal and am definitely willing to take chances along the way, but I think you can get yourself in trouble bringing in "the next big thing". Our history tends to show that our athletic department is willing to do what it takes long term to keep a coach (who's been successful) from leaving and I'm not sure that's always in the best interest of the program over time.

Read today that Fleck has 'agreed to' the new contract, but will not sign it until the middle of Dec.
Knows how to keep the door open to other jobs and negotiate.

Wonder if that new contract would get restructured in the event they lose out.

I get that, but an outside perspective is also good. (Just using the hypothetical of Campbell) his staff has alot of ties to Ohio. Bringing in an outside coach could open up our recruiting footprint.

And this is still Iowa. Look outside. It takes some heavy duty selling. Kirk has NFL ties to the best coach ever in the NFL who says glowing things about Kirk and we put kids in the NFL. That said we are talking 16, 17 and 18 year olds who don't always make rational decisions (just like we didn't).

We have to remember that hayden Fry was a pretty established coach when he came to Iowa. IIRC he got a SWC championship at SMU and I cant remember how he was doing at North Texas. But anyone who beats out Texas, A&M, Arkansas back in the 1960's is a good coach. And Fry integrated the SWC first with Jerry Levias which shows a culture positive mindset for a school like Iowa which had many black players going back to the early 20th century.

KF didnt have the head coaching success before Iowa but he had a very good coaching background.

I don't necessarily think a coach has to have "success as a head coach" but IMO needs to have years of experience. Every head coach has a story of how they moved up the ranks to get that first head coaching position. But if your going to promote an first time head coach they better have a damn good resume. I'm not saying I wouldn't support it, but if your promoting a coach from within a program and they've never had the opportunity to grow outside of that program I think it's a huge mistake.
