Coach McCaffery shares my disdain for the jump pass

McCAFFERY: You have guys for some reason who think you have to jump up in the air to make a pass. I’ve never seen that before. It’s more than one guy. Stay on the floor when you want to feed the ball. If you jump, the guy isn’t somehow open, it’s going to be a turnover. That’s the one glaring thing.

Maybe lil'lick was just too short to see over the guy he was trying to pass through/around?

What I still find shocking is that EVERYBODY doesn't share that disdain.
Agree. Cully Payne has great heart, plays hard, and gets alot out of his talent but if he was on my team he would be dead from me kicking him for every jump pass. Drives me crazy! I use it to teach my daughter what not to do...and it worked.

Sounds like a coaching upgrade on that alone.

Do you have disdain for the jumpshot pass??? Takes me back to the Tom Davis era.

I think that pass was typically made before the shooter/passer left his feet. It looked like he was going to shoot though. Or my memory could be wrong, of course. I just don't remember the shooter being airborn.

Youtube here I come!

I think Fran would like me on his team. I rarely jump on the basketball court, and when I do I don't think my toes get all the way off the ground.

I do play a lot of basketball too.

Dumbest play ever. either the guy is open or hes not. faking a jump shot doesn't make the receiver of the lob any more open and it just increases the difficulty of the pass unnecessarily.

uh, it is very effective when the defenders try to box out and the recipient has already jumped in the air.

Honestly, I think Cully grew up doing it as he was shorter than most, and he has made it work. I do not mind it. He does not turn it over that much. I see guys do it in the NBA all the time and they make it work. Does not allow for a defender to tip the pass as much, imo.
