With a lot of the attention being focused on the other guys in next yr's class (including myself), I did a quick search for stats on Clemmons and Ingram.

Clemmons is averaging 14pts/7rbds/3.5assts/3stls in a competitive MI league

Also, found a rundown of a recent North Central game where Ingram co-led his team in pts (w/ a Purdon't recruit)...17pts/8rebs/2stls. Again, in a very competitive IN league

You are correct about their competition. Very tough. Clemmons plays on a team with a kid named Valentine that is a MSU commit and Ingram also plays with a quality team that has 2-3 other D-1 players. I personally think they both could surprise and push for early minutes. Now Meyer might be a gem here as well. He is a lot like White in that he is always around the ball and he can run the floor. He is currently averaging around 17.6pts and 12.7 boards. Basically in on year coach Fran has turned us into a near future stud team. Its amazing what can happen when you bring in real BB players and have the ability to coach them. GO HAWKS!!!!!!!
 
Thanks for your post, Kirby. Coach McCaffery is going to have a nice problem next year. Amazing how we've gone from wondering who is going to provide some positives for our team to having a wealth of possibilities. I'm wondering, given the size of this class and next years, if he will redshirt some of next year's freshmen.

Fran is building things very well.....

His recruits all fit his style nicely. They all love to run and gun, play tenacious D, and score in transition. The incoming class would actually make a good combination to put on the floor, when they have adjusted to the college game. Fran will have the luxury of putting several potent combos on the court. When all have learned their roles and responsibilities, we will be a nightmare for the worthless opponents.....

the way fran seems to have found some diamonds in the rough (like white and meyer) i could see it becoming like kf with offensive linemen and as soon as we offer a kid that others have looked past all of a sudden he gets a bunch of offers.

That is what usually happens, Foval, Fran seems to play it close to the vest, not wanting others to bird dog him.....

I think that White, Meyer, Ingram and Clemmons all committed very soon after being offered. The recruiting process was not that heavily advertised because the players were so far under the radar, being surrounded by supposed future superstars.....

It might be more difficult for Fran to keep his interest secretive now.....

I completely agree. But, I don't think the label, 'diamond in the rough' can apply to recruits. That might sound absurd, but it's true. I would call Aaron white a diamond in the rough, but that's because I've seen him play and play well. You can't say Kyle Meyer is a diamond in the rough (yet), because he hasn't played yet. The implication is that if a low ranked prospect ends up being good in college, he's a diamond in the rough. What you mean to say is that he's underrated. To me, 'diamond in the rough' implies a change in opinion. If Meyer were a diamond in the rough, he'd be ranked higher. I agree that he will be what we consider a diamond in the rough in hindsight, but you can't give him that label yet. Right now he's just a three star recruit (or whatever he is rated).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Meyer at all (or Fran's recruiting for that matter). I am completely excited to have him and the rest of the incoming class. And I think he is comparable to Aaron White for a lot of obvious reasons, which is another reason to be excited.

If you put the incoming 5 against our current starting 5 I would take the newcomers to win.
 
White was injured the summer between his JR and SR year so he did not go thru the summer AAU evaluation,and get a higher rating, and somehow i don't think a kid that gets awarded the MVP of the Ohio/Kentucky All Star Game is a diamond in the rough,
Meyer was looking for a Clemson offer, but they wanted to see him play during the summer AAU and make their decision, they didn't offer Fran did and he chose Iowa in spring before the summer evaluations.
lets face it the Atlantic Celtics are one of the top AAU teams in the country year in and year out, which is why nobody paid attention to him, he is now just a 2* on espn, as are Clemmons and Ingram, with Clemmons he is rated the #1 pg and 3rd best player in Michigan, by the Michigan people. But he cant beat out Ray Lee on ESPN.
but during the summer both of these played in the shadow of some of the higher regarded players,
Woodbury has now been dropped out of the top 50 and from the 7th best center to 11th best, this is why i have always felt the rankings are a farce,
lets face it all 5 of Iowa recruits were dropped, we now have 2 4* and 3 2* recruits, but they are alot better than their rankings as seen on their videos

The biggest impact of the freshmen next year will be the battles at practice to earn playing time. As Gamble mentioned, the practices for the 86-87 team were harder than most of the actual games they played. The guys really went after each other.

Herby has assessed all recruits to be undervalued so there's that.
 
why critizes a statement of fact, Woodbury was Top 50 at 42 and 7th best at his position awarded the MVP of the NBA Top 100 camp, now that he has signed with Iowa he drops out of the Top 50 and now is rated the 11th best center, Gesell is a 2 time Gatorade player of the year in Nebraska and is in line for getting that award for the 3rd time as well as Mr.BB in Nebraska, and dropped from 72nd best overall to 84th and from the 10th best pg to the 15th best, after signing with Iowa.
hard to argue with that

Is any of this going to affect their ability to play basketball and help our team? Then why worry about it? And I don't want to hear about how it may affect our future recruits, because it won't affect their skills either. Just give it a rest, herby. You have made your feelings regarding the ESPN ratings abundantly clear.
 
Statement of fact? Ratings aren't factual to begin with let alone the argument you make against them.
 
my arguement lies in how good this class is in how the talking heads percieve this class is, and that is by rankings, the more they promote Iowa, the better it is for Iowa, especially TV coverage.
Indiana got their matchup with Kentucky and their top 25 ranking because of the incoming Class rankings.
in the end i guess it doesn't matter tha Iowa doesn't get that respect so many of you complain that Iowa doesn't get, nor does it appear that you want that type of respect to get National TV coverage the rankings bring.
do i realize the * doesn't help a kid in his playing ability; yes i get that, but unlike you i want the national respect that a higher ranked class gets
