Clayborn joins Patriots

Signed a 2 year deal, 12 million. The Titans released Karl Klug after 7 years. Matt Tobin signed a 1 yeat deal with the Patriots

For Clayborn at this point in his career get to go chase a ring with the Pats AND get paid (I assume that's fairly front end loaded deal) is pretty awesome. I'm not a Pats fan at all but if they were to win at least with him there it'll take the sting off of it

After all these years, and the long friendship between Kirk and Bill, New England is finally starting to turn into Iowa east. Clayborn joins Matt Tobin, Cole Croston and Riley McCarron as former Hawkeyes on the team or practice roster. Josh Jackson would be a natural if he falls to them. And Noah Fant looks like a born Patriot.

Klug is in a tough spot do you retire or do you try and hang on for another 2 or 3 years and collect an NFL pension?

I just saw a deal on 247 where a media talking head thinks he's why they were ok with losing/not paying to keep Amendola. How cool would that be? I heard he ran a 4.3 something 40 during his pro day. He'll be considered a diamond in the rough to most but I can't say it'd surprise me too much. Just needs the chance.

Don’t you have to be a good looking white guy to play wide receiver for the Patriots? Is McCarron good looking? I’m joking around here.

In all seriousness, they pulled Hogan off the lacrosse field and made him a legit receiver. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if RM is catching passes from Brady next year. I can see it now people going nuts wondering why GD didn’t use RM more.

McCarron won the 3A 100m title in high school. I believe his PR was 11.17, and he ran a 4.36 40 on his pro day.

I was kinda surprised he didn't stick in Houston with OBrien. He said some glowing things about him after bringing him in there to start with. This however may be the even better fit though hard to imagine there being a better one

Just goes to show that we did have some speed (McCarron, Powell, T Smith) to stretch the field and take some vertical shots.

We just had a pansy OC who would rather throw three yard out patterns.

I've said it before. If Greg and Kirk were basketball coaches their favorite offensive set would be the shot clock violation. The way they coach, playing the field position game, wanting to get the defense back on the field so it wouldn't become a track meet, is the equivalent of settling for the dead ball turnover because they fear a potential transition opportunity for the other team.

Wonder what that might be for him since he doesn't seem to want to retire. I wonder if he'll take his time and not sign till camp is half over to avoid the worst of that. Some vets like to do that to save some wear and tear

He looks like he still has something in the tank, but wasn't his senior year 2010? That's a long time to be in the NFL and the minimum salary creeps up with tenure and the GMs are definitely jettisoning veterans out of the league unless they are really good. I hope he can stick somewhere, but at this point a lot of teams might just want younger players. I gotta assume even if he doesn't make it through a camp, he could be one of those guys on the free agent list who gets picked up around week 4 or 6 when a team has a few injuries.

Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking too. He did have another year on his contract and asked NE to cut him. Now they may have done it anyway too hard telling. But for him to want to be cut tells me he probably didn't want to go through camp with them or anyone real bad. That's just a huge grind for those older vets. If he stays in shape and gets the itch to want to play again this way he can hand pick where he goes and when. He got his ring now so playing is pretty much on his terms now. He can't demand a big salary but there's always going to be 2 or 3 teams out there looking for a DE pass rusher.

It sucks I'll never be able to watch him again. Patriots game is time to mow the lawn, rake leaves or clean the bathroom.

Thank you @Patriots for my time with the organization. I gained so much respect for how you do things and win championships. It’s done the right way through hard work. Thank you for granting my release. I’m ready for this next chapter.

That's laughable with how many times the Patriots have cheated and been caught. Now their owner is busted in some sex sting operation.
