CJB...

Agree 100%. He converted so many difficult third downs last year!!! Remember the Indiana game, throwing against his body and threading the needle on a third and long to keep a TD drive alive late in the game? I never saw Rudock do that

I just watched that game the other day. It was to Vandy and he bobbled the catch. I think he had 7 first down run's against wisconsin. The Pitt throw off his back foot to complete a huge first down 2 years ago. A qb wgo makes a bunch of plays is night and day better than one who doesn't. Weird that people actually argue that.

First off I wanna say I never saw JR as a bad QB. Just not as good as CJB. Which is another way of saying "not as many wins with one QB vs the other."

3 questions.

First) In your opinion what was the problem?

Second) Assuming you're right about JR, then what do you feel motivated Kirk to demote him shortly after the season ended?

Third) Do you believe that if coaches get credit for great years then they should also get credit for under-performing years?

1) Defense was inconsistent, blew tackles, assignments, etc., and committed the same stupid penalties too often

2) CJB had "caught up", for one. And JR had been battling injuries (nagging, not major, to be sure) that made him less effective.

3) Coaches AND players should get credit, not just one or the other. Take 2015. There are a TON of guys whose names we never hear and may have played sparingly (if at all) who were very important to the success of the team.

I think JR went a little too extreme with making the safe play. It did seem like he went so quickly to the check down that he wasn't even trying anything else.

As far as 40 times go, it's lateral movement that allows CJ to make the plays he does with his feet. He is surprisingly shifty.

JRs lateral movement may have been affected by the brace. And yes, he DID seem to go "check down" too early, but he also did some really good things. Frankly, when he came back against Indiana and NW, it was pretty hard to say he shouldn't "keep" the job. It was also easy to see, against Indiana, that our defense had problems.

I agree he did some good things. I think Rudock could push for top 5 qb's in Ferentz era. The only problem is CJ is pushing for top 1.

The indiana game was a bit of fools gold as fAR as the offense goes. Wasn't that the game with the long touchdown run by Parker and the quick out to Powell that went for about a 70 yard td? 2 big plays that didn't have much to do with Rudock but I agree it won him his job back.

The real difference between CJ and Rudock, as I see it, is the consistency. Cj seems to make plays most of the time. Rudock could be great or below average from half to half. It's hard to really know for certain, but it is possible that whoever stayed would have played comparably. Not knowing if you're going to start from game to game can mess with your head and your confidence.

Aside from that CJ seems to have a quicker release and, of course, an extra year of eligibility.

In all honesty, CJB may be as good as any QB since JHF arrived. Obviously tough to argue with Long being #1, but CJB is easily in the argument for "next best after Long", ASSUMING HE HAS A SEASON SIMILAR TO LAST SEASON (had to put in so Icke doesn't jump my a$$)

JR was just not a very good quarterback under KF. See it a lot in sports. Sports is just as much about psychology as it is physical ability. It was not a match. It is my opinion that KF is not a terrible recruiter of qbs. He is terrible about getting back ups ready. He is not good at recruiting qbs that fit what he wants. He wants a good qb that will listen and deliver what he wants. He does best when he gets a good qb that has the mojo to get in his face a bit and delivers no matter what (or in the case of Banks just has natural ability better than listening skills) and has the patience combined with in your face mojo to get the job and do what it takes on the field.

That is my opinion.
