CJB Playing time Tomorrow

I don't think at all that CJ was put in to give as an offensive pop. I think he was put in because Kirk thought the game was comfortable enough to give CJ some reps. I think the fact that Kirk went back to Jake after Indiana scored and got the 2 point conversation proves my theory is correct. If he would have stayed with CJ after their score I would probably agree with you.
Another explanation could be CJB lead a scoring drive and 2 point while Iowa was in game manager mode and now he's back in KF's doghouse.

He played very well the entire half. Jake got 3 series in the 2nd qtr and got 10 points off those 3 possessions. On the drive Iowa got the FG, he attempted 2 passes, 1 for a 31 yard gain to Tevaun Smith, that flipped field position, the other incomplete. On the TD drive he hit Smith for a first down on 3rd and 12, and he would have had a 25 yard TD pass to KMM if the D wouldn't have pass interfered with him, but the drive ultimately ended in a TD anyway.

It isn't Jakes fault that the Iowa coaches then went into shut down mode for the 2nd half. To even complain about that game just shows how some just can't take the blinders off. JR had 7 possessions in the first half, and Iowa scored 31 offensive points. 4 of his 7 drives went for TD's and 5 of 7 drives resulted in points. That is freaking production and to try to spin it any other way is just sour grapes cause "your" guy didn't do it.

Not all of those scoring drives were a result of Jake's play specifically. I think he is getting more credit than he probably deserves here. Maryland game should be revealing one way or another.

CJ scored under the conservative rules that Kirk and GD implemented for that drive. That was an everyone wins situation. It's not that Kirk doesn't want to score. It's just that he is willing to greatly reduce the chances of scoring to reduce the chance for a turnover.

Today in Byrd Stadium, the wind is going to be 15+mph out of the NW. That stadium runs NW to SE so for half the game the wind will be in our face. My hopes are for :

1. We win the coin toss, defer, and take the wind in the first qtr....get a quit stop and make them punt against the wind.
2. Jake comes in and drives the team well with the wind at his back.
3. 2nd Qtr comes around and we are against the wind, and CJ comes out.
4. CJ's strong arm allows us to operate against the wind and not be limited to short tosses.
5. Second half....we take the ball, they take the wind, and CJ comes out to continue our roll.
6. 4th qtr...with the wind, and the lead, Jake comes back out to get us home.

Just my fantasy, I know...but really Jake flat out struggled against the wind last year....and CJ can use his arm to combat going stagnate against the wind. His passes really spin out of his hand, which allows them to cut thru the wind...Jake throws a floater that is easier to catch, but does not spin thru the wind....hangs up, like a punt.

That's actually a really good fantasy (mine involves 2 chicks and a gerbil) but unfortunately it ends with winning the toss and defering.

I have no expectations.

If Jake is playing well, leave him in. If not, give CJ a shot.

Thats about how I feel but Jake will probably have a bit longer leash as Jake played better than I've ever seen CJ play.

CJ played better against Pitt by almost every stat, albeit for 1 half. He also made some NFL caliber throws.

When was the last time that we won the toss and deferred? Ferentz has been like a pro coach - you win the toss, you take the ball.
