Does anyone know anything about this?

I have been following the Hawks on internet message boards for about 20 years - people like to start (upsetting) rumors and then watch people fret and worry.

Every once in a (very long) while, perhaps sometimes by coincidence only, one such rumor will turn out to be true, so people that are otherwise very reasonable and level headed have a hard time not ignoring the stupidity.

In reality, the type of people with this type of inside information are not generally running to message boards to spread it. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just saying it's very rare for it to happen.

In the case of this particular rumor, somewhere somebody is getting a good kick out of this.

This rumor has popped up a few times and usually by someone in his home area. I find it highly unlikely due to his relationship with Fran but I do know this season wasn’t the easiest for him

I dont know much about CJs high school ties and past teammates, much about where he came from, but hard to see a healthy player who is a starter, who plays a fair number of minutes or more than fair, who is a really good player, wanting to transfer.

I hope CJ doesnt feel he has a tough time playing in the big 10 because the 2nd half of the season he was injured and b4 the injury he was playing very well.

Welp...if anyone thinks followers on social media is an indicator, both Patrick and Connor unfollowed CJ on Instagram. And Patrick made the comment “What’s done in the dark always comes to light.”

Well, I guess I would be ok with JBO coming back for a 10th year. He’d be the only perimeter shooter on the roster next year

He would end up with a Bakari Evelyn type guard
or this......he would be tasked with getting the shinny tree and he would come home with this pathetic thing. Coach it up in a few years and it will finally stand upright.

Hit that portal Fran. Hit it hard.
Lol. He can hit it as hard as he wants...

How you gonna get anybody to decide to come here when our current roster are dropping like flies, admittedly for different reasons???

Iowa fans think we should be able to recruit better...

Iowa fans think we should be making deep tourney runs...

Iowa fans don’t apparently realize that we’re Iowa. This program is not anything even remotely resembling a marquee destination for a high school basketball player and it never will be. I’m sorry, I love the Hawks but the ceiling here is upper half in the conference on average and upper 1/4th in a good year once in a while. If we didn’t have Garza this year (which was Fran winning the lottery), we would have been fighting it out with Minnesota and NW for 13th. This was a unicorn year.

So when you say Fran should hit the portal and hit it hard, what exactly would you say to a really good player to get them to come here? Let’s be real. What is there appealing about Iowa basketball in 2022 that’s going to make an impact player decide to sign? We have a really cool Elvis impersonator that comes to watch our games and you get free tickets to watch Spencer Lee wrestle?

Im genuinely curious as to what people think could (legally) be used as persuasion to come here. We are who we are.

One of Fran’s biggest issues is getting guys to the league. CJs camp felt like it wasn’t going to happen playing at Iowa. This transfer has apparently been in the works for awhile.

You would need a Chirs Beard/Eric Musselman type coach to come here, even though you know they will move on in four to six years. That's the only way it has happened at Iowa since the 1950's and that's the only way it will happen.

But for those four to six years they are here we would be a national contender. Hiring coaches who see Iowa as their final destination will give you Davis/McCaffrey type results but that's about the limit.

Its too bad we couldn't have held on to Lute Olson for a couple decades. But there were many layers to that onion as to why he left for Arizona.

I get the nunge and weiskamp reasons for leaving but to me this is a head scratcher CJ would have been the #1 scoring option next year couldn’t ask for more to pad your stats for the pros, coming off the bench at Kentucky to be a 3 point specialist seems like a step backwards

Calipari pays better than Fran.

And no, I'm not being sarcastic.

I'll bet my house that as soon as the transfer rule looked like a done deal Calipari had his players texting him and promising him fortune and fame. That's how those guys roll.
