this kinda surprises me. Iowa needs a big in the worst way. Woody cannot play 40 minutes a game and Uthoff can't play in the post.

I trust ya Fran, but I gotta say a little concerned.

I think after Woody graduates Fran may not go for traditional center types. He probably had to recruit Woody because he was so high profile and from Iowa but guys like this new offer really fit the kind of system he wants to run. Sounds like he can shoot and me likey that.

Sounds like Iowa is bringing him in to play pg more than wing. A team full of athletic, 6'5" and taller players gives a lot of flexibility on both ends.

For Fran to bring in another 2 or 3 type player, you would have to think he really really likes him. I don't see how he could possibly bring him in otherwise judging by the guys we already have. Using that logic, I'm pretty optimistic about this pickup.

I love next year's class. Blend them in with the 6 returning players next year then turn them loose their last 3 years.

I remember when it came to light that McCafffery was recruiting Tyler Ulis and people were saying that he was too small and not good enough to play Div I basketball. He wasn't even among the best in his Illinois class that year. Seems to me that McCaffery just saw something there that others didn't and we see how that turned out. Why won't people give him the benefit of the doubt? I suspect he recruits with a purpose whether we all see it or not.

Uhh, no, actually Tyler Ulis was VERY highly recruited by this stage of his career. He had his choice of any college in the country, with his finalists being Michigan State, Kentucky, and Iowa. Williams, by comparison, has his choice of ONE major school. Nice try at finding a silver lining to another "diamond in the rough" type recruit. Fran specializes in beating mid majors for his recruits but can't run with the coaches that make his kind of salary. That's just the way it is going to be.

You know what he meant turd ferguson

I think this kid will play pg when Gesell and Clemmons leave. Play one year then McCaffery comes in and he can slide to shooting guard. I wonder what Fran wanted him to wait for? Hmmm.....

Yay, another mid-major guard. Oh well, maybe we've got the next Wes Washpun on our hands!

Washpun??
No, Hawkeyes do not need a turnover prone,
below average shooter/passer, who doesn't start at Mid-major.

I think the IOWA Staff sees similarities to Roy Devyn Marble in
Christian.

Woodburys not exactly a traditional center type IMO. A traditional 7ft center, to me, should be able to block shots and dunk everything around the rim.

Wow that is one impressive list of offers he has....no wonder Fran struggles with talent with the recruiting classes he keeps bringing in.....

You know who else didn't have good offers? Marble, Jok or Sapp (who has played well this year and is a more than serviceable backup point guard in the B1G). You know. You know one of our guards who DID have some good offers? Oglesby, who, while he has taken an unfair share of grief, won't be missed. So far, Fran's had far better luck unearthing diamonds in the rough than he has with 4/5* recruits. Only one of the four best players he's had (Gatens, Marble, White and Uthoff) have been 4* talents.

Obviously not every single under the radar guy has panned out (Dickerson, Ingram, Meyer), but Fran's got a pretty high hit rate, including on the guys who didn't end up signing with us (or Sienna). The guy is rarely offering guys who can't play at this level.

By this stage, sure. But Fran noticed him before any of the blue blood programs did, and when it comes down to choosing between Iowa and Kentucky, that's not a very difficult choice if you don't have some sort of ties to Iowa.
