Christian Vital down to UConn, Iowa & Louisville

He told me he will visit all three schools. His mom requested he not release the dates of those visits.

From what I've seen. I'm not even sure he is a true PG. Not convinced that Christian Williams isnt just as good an option.

We really need to get a grad transfer

I disagree. If the grad transfer aren't going to mesh well with the team, you stand pat. Fran has said as much time and time again. He said they are evaluating the transfers, but I have not heard of him reaching out to any of them yet.

When the Register is tweeting out an article about Vital and saying "Iowa needs a PG - BAD" I think it's pretty obvious we can't just bank it or we're going to regret it next season

You can read and watch how Fran feels about this situation here http://hawkeyenation.com/2016/mccaffery-discusses-options-open-scholarship

I didn't get the sense that he's stressed about it at all. If they find someone he thinks fits - grad transfer, transfer, HS - he makes a move. If not, he's fine rolling it over to next year.

I think Spike Albrecht would be a great fit. But there aren't many of those guys out there on the grad transfer market.

As for Vital, Fran likes him quite a bit. I do, too.

All a grad transfer does is come in and take away much needed playing time from guys that need the experience.

Vital is as much a hedge against the possibility of Jok going pro and/or to Europe than a PG fix.

How do you know a grad transfer won't get us on the bubble or off of it and into the dance, depending on how good we are next year?

The only way he would take minutes is it he's better. Since the goal is to have the best team possible, you have to take one if you find the right fit.

Not sure why he would seriously consider Louisville with an NCAA investigation underway and self imposed sanctions at this point. Could this be between UCONN and Iowa? He has several friends at UCONN so they will be tough to beat. It sounds like the Iowa visit is the last of the three so that may bode well for the Hawks?

And how do you know that CW cannot handle the PG position with some experience playing heavy minutes next year? The non-con looks challenging so the youth is going to get some big time experience and lessons.

You might be right about the right grad transfer but there is also an opportunity cost with bringing in a one year rental with a young team. That's a vote of no confidence to the young guys and at the end of the day we get a guy for one season. That's it. I'd be more for it if we had a veteran group missing a piece to make a good run.

I can't believe how many people think a guy who has offers from Louisville and UConn won't be good. I would love for the Hawks to land Vital. He looks like he would be a very good player for us.

I just don't see a grad transfer going to a young, inexperienced team.
I do. Gets a chance to be a leader and get more playing time than if he went to a loaded team.

I think the stars are aligning nicely for him coming to Iowa for a year.

This is good sound logic. I would also love to have CV on the team. CV is a scorer and if he can play pg, it is a missing link. We need more competition and opportunity (more players) at that position to find this missing link. Maybe it's CW, maybe it's JB or maybe it'd be CV. It is worth getting him on board.
