Chris Street: Young or Old, A Hero to Us All (My Thoughts)

Nice article. Im the same age and the impact is very similar. Im not sure kids today grasp the magnitude of Iowa basketball at that time, it was huge. We were in a basketball tournament in IC, I believe in 6th grade. Between games, we went over to Carver Hawkeye just in case there was a door open. Ran around the arena, check every single door and finally found 1 that was open. We just wanted to see Carver and the floor in person. We hit the jackpot, the hawks were practicing at the same time. We walked down the steps with our jaws dropped, sat in the seats and just watched. Im not sure any of us said a word for 2 straight hours. It was bigger than life for us.

That's how Iowa basketball and their players were viewed at that time, bigger than life, especially to kids our age. To have any player, let alone a player like Chris Street killed, it was just devastating and didnt even seem possible. It still doesnt even seem possible today, 20 years later.

Nice article. Thank you. I remember the moment I heard of Chris's death just like it was yesterday. My father and I where watching the KCRG news and I remember seeing the images of his car after the accident had happened quite vividly. I was in Eighth grade at Taft in C.R. and was devastated with what had happened then and even now twenty years later while sitting here typing this I am having trouble not tearing up. Chris Street was by far my favorite basketball player then and still today what he did for Iowa basketball, the fans and for me personally weighs heavy in my memory.

I had no idea Chris had such an impact on people. This week has been very eye-opening. I don't remember anyone getting emotional when he died.

Great write up.
I was a Junior and won't forget being at home and then just being glued to the TV for so long and the following days until his funeral.

It always ends up... not about the post... always about the boring, self indulgent pos(t)ers.

Great job Stormin!

It felt as if you were writing the story of my life at that time. Everything about it is similar to my experience. I am sure this can be said about a lot of other people who grew up Hawkeye fans in Iowa
