Chris Street: Remembering a beloved Hawkeye (B. Stiles Piece)

I cant get enough of it either. I can remember Street playing like it was yesterday. When he died, Iowa was #1 in the nation in rebounding margin at +17 per game, which is insane. His last game, it was one and done for Duke, unfortunately Thomas Hill was on fire that day and Duke ended up winning by 9. It seemed every time there was a missed shot, Iowa could have let the ball bounce around a few times and then picked it up, thats how well Earl, Street and the rest of the team blocked out. There were very few 2nd shots with Street and Earl in the paint.

Maybe the best article on Street I've ever read. (no disrespect to tm3308)
I hope Tom Davis will attend. I know it's got to be very difficult for him, but after 20 years it's time to remember Chris with joy for all the great things he did and for the person he was.
Going to be a magical night for sure!

To be fair, he got way better access than I did. I tried for weeks to get a hold of Michigan State's SID to get Izzo on the phone for a few minutes, and never heard a word back, not even one telling me to go **** myself.

I wanted to punch Matt Larson in the face during the MSU post game.

Your article was very solid work. Big ups to you.

Media Fued!! Watch out everybody!

Obviously, I'm partial to my own story, as well. But this story that ran in the LA Times back in '93 is still my favorite.

Laughter Leaves an Entire State : The Death of Chris Street Turns Iowa Into a 3-Million Member Family - Los Angeles Times

Look Tork, enough with the shameless self-promotion...;)

What got me on the article above and beyond anything else was the very opening.

If you have ever wondered why Fran McCaffery is so invested into the Iowa program and has been genuine in his view of Iowa, read that. He knew of Chris Street first-hand from Tom Davis before anyone outside of the state of Iowa probably did.

It is ironic how Fran is now at Iowa on Chris Street's 20th anniversary. No other coach after Davis would embrace the significance of what tomorrow means other than McCaffery.

Tom Davis was never the same after Street passed away and it is obvious from the article that he never will. Iowa basketball hasn't been the same since Street passed away, but today there is different feel about the program. The Iowa program seems more together again, prior to the Alford/Lickliter regimes. Fran restored order and stability from his opening press conference and is bringing in players that have the team mentality first.

The article you site was very good as well, I just like this one a whole lot better.

Big color picture of Chris street on the front page in the sports section in the Wisconsin state journal today. Thought that was pretty neat. Nothing about the game just the story of street and Gary close.
