Has he been talking up Iowa to his contemporaries at all? I'm sure he's still a peon at the network but I'd like to think he'd be using what platform he has to try and either change minds or point out their bias's to all this talk. Last night listening to the talking heads they all have the same opinion of Iowa based on BS. You can't say Iowa has a terrible SOS to this point and then prop up Memphis... They have one good win at home against a rival that to them is similar to ISU and Iowa. That's it. The rest of their resume and schedule isn't that tough. It's downright funny how they'll bash our SOS to this point and then NEVER SAY WHAT IT IS.... They ever so cleverly omit actually giving our ranking and actually compare it. If NW gets credit for having beaten Stanford (and they should) and Stanford doesn't get dinged, or even gets credit for a good loss to them then how is Iowa winning at NW by 30 not a good thing? It's never mentioned and completely ignored when our resume gets talked about? I agree with Jon Miller that it's largely just a style of play and perception preference that all these talking heads have. And if a guy like Hassel who works there could possibly in a public way call them on it it'd make for some great TV.

National pundits don't have to apologize for verbally bashing Iowa and Iowa doesn't have to apologize for physically bashing every opponent.

Hassel has gone out of his way to prop up Iowa at ESPN and he's even said that most of his coworkers are even tired of hearing it from him. The fact of the matter is most of the people who "analyze" college football are just flat out lazy. They get predetermined ideas of how things are going to go in their heads and they make these predictions. Then as the season goes along they try like heck to keep their initial narrative correct and will argue their initial predictions rather than actually "analyzing" the landscape. It's mostly ego of being correct and unavoidable human bias based off the region they've covered most in their career or just simply where they live.

So Hassel can be a cheerleader for Iowa all day everyday, the people who work for the mothership aren't going to let someone else make up their mind. Even when hard data is presented in their face they still don't care and just shrug their shoulders and say....meh.

He worked at WHO in DSM for quite awhile before the Mothership gave him a job. He's a big Hawk fan. I was hoping he would have been able to get a radio gig once SVP stopped. I think he'd be great at that and I think he's guest hosted some shows on ESPN since being there. He probably has to pay his dues a little more and get more popular. He really got to show some personality when he was at WHO and on Soundoff occasionally. At ESPN he's had to be more buttoned up I'm sure.

I heard him on one of the espn guy's podcast and he was on there as one of his "characters" that he creates. This one was Tim Tebow's high school football coach. He was freaking hilarious and even the host of the podcast was taken a back by Chris's character. Wish I could remember the name of the guy who's podcast it was but I can't remember cause I'd link it if I could. Chris is a very talented guy and could be in sketch comedy for a living if that was something he wanted to pursue.
