Since the beginning of the 1999 season, ISU has played a total of 187 football games. Of those 187 games played, 40 of them have been against FCS and/or non-Power 5 teams and 16 of them have been played against the Hawks. That leaves 131 games against Power 5 teams not named Iowa. In those 131 games, they held teams to 17 points or less a total of 27 times, or 20.6% of the time.

In the 40 non Power 5 games, they held opponents to 17 or under 19 times or 47.5% of the time.

In the 16 games against Iowa, they have held us to 17 or less a total of 10 times or 62.5% of the time.

Yeah, there's no problems with our offense these last 16 years....not in the least!

Crazy numbers for Iowa vs ISU. We do not score much against anyone, tho....not just the clones. We have just not gotten the right coach, or players ect to have consistent offensive output. I look at our QBs....Ricky Stanzi is the only one in the KF years that has gotten more than a cup of coffee in the NFL. MSU has Stanton, Smoker, Cousins, Hoyer in the NFL right now. Wisky also has put more rbs and QBs in the league. Good offenses need special skill players, and we have not landed them, outside of Shonn Greene. Is it the chicken or the egg....do we not get good skill players because of our crappy offense or vice versa?

I'm impressed you spent that much time on an Iowa State website to gather this data. As a result, do you need to go through a decontamination protocol to have the stench removed? They may have beaten Iowa, but it doesn't mean they are beyond ridicule.

If only our skill players were as good as the FCS skill players. We could improve our percentage to closer to 50%.

Iowa has won 22 of the last 32 winning by an average of 13 points per game.
Who Cares.I'm more concerned that with our talent at the skilled positions our offense is terrible. Were lucky that we're 2-1 and if our coaches can't see it then were in for a lot of disappointment. Were healthier than we ever have been and we stink. Its hard to sustain drives of 10 or more plays before you score sometimes you need a home run.

We just haven't been executing since 1999.

Seriously, Kirk ought to go out and get someone who knows the Wiscy offense and blocking schemes for OC and then leave him alone. It would simultaneously fit his conservative style and score a lot of points.

The problem does not lie with our skill players.

Who are our dynamic skilled offensive players?

Jake did not receive many real offers outside of Iowa.
Weisman was a walkon.
Canzeri is a small rb who did not draw interest.
Bullock was a two star rb who got no interest in Texas.
Willies is unknown.
K-Mart was a Mac recruit
Smith was not heavily pursued.

Ray Hamilton is the one skilled offensive guy who drew real interest from power 5 schools.

I am not saying it is the whole problem, but why are no Iowa skill players in the NFL?

Drew Tate was about the only 4 star QB we have had this decade.
McNutt was a QB who converted to WR...other than him...WR's?

We have issues with scheme, and personnel.

Who are the dynamic skill players on all those FCS schools putting up points against ISU? What you're saying is true but this conversation isn't about competing with Alabama, it's about scoring more than 17 points against one of the worst teams in the history of the world.

No doubt.

Paul "Bear Bryant and Vince Lombardi had a baby, it grew a weird half-beard and they named it Paul Rhoads" Rhoads is a paltry 16-32 (.333) against "Power 5" competition (not counting Iowa)...he's 3-3 against Iowa. Unfortunately, I doubt he is the only coach we make look good (like Fitzgerald).

So it takes skilled playmakers to beat ISU now? The point....you missed it.

The 21 FCS/non-power 5 schools that have managed to put up more than 17 points....what playmakers did they have that you wished Iowa would have had.

I'm not concerned with competing against the Alabamas and USCs of the world. At this point, I'd simply like to field teams and have coaches that can do better than a sub .500 record while scoring under 17 points 63% of the time against one of the worst "power 5" programs in the history of college football. Shouldn't take a whole he!! of a lot of playmakers to do that....you wouldn't think so anyway....
