Chew on this awhile....

So it takes skilled playmakers to beat ISU now? The point....you missed it.

The 21 FCS/non-power 5 schools that have managed to put up more than 17 points....what playmakers did they have that you wished Iowa would have had.

I'm not concerned with competing against the Alabamas and USCs of the world. At this point, I'd simply like to field teams and have coaches that can do better than a sub .500 record while scoring under 17 points 63% of the time against one of the worst "power 5" programs in the history of college football. Shouldn't take a whole he!! of a lot of playmakers to do that....you wouldn't think so anyway....

I feel like you just reworded my post.

Sorry dude....I didn't even get to your post....after I read the post from the guy that listed what he felt was our lack of playmakers, I responded without seeing what anyone else said. Good to see at least one other person on here is thinking along the same lines as me!

Who are our dynamic skilled offensive players?

Jake did not receive many real offers outside of Iowa.
Weisman was a walkon.
Canzeri is a small rb who did not draw interest.
Bullock was a two star rb who got no interest in Texas.
Willies is unknown.
K-Mart was a Mac recruit
Smith was not heavily pursued.

Ray Hamilton is the one skilled offensive guy who drew real interest from power 5 schools.

I am not saying it is the whole problem, but why are no Iowa skill players in the NFL?

Drew Tate was about the only 4 star QB we have had this decade.
McNutt was a QB who converted to WR...other than him...WR's?

We have issues with scheme, and personnel.

Not to poke too many holes in what you wrote cause there is alot of truth to it. However Rudock had an offer from Wisky I believe among a few other pretty good schools. I think Miami came in late and wanted him too. But yea all 3 RBs weren't highly sought after. But I do think they aren't bad. They've made plays when they've had opportunities. They gotta have a hole to run through.

Willies is a RS Freshman 3 games in.. Lets not write his story yet. KMM I would say has played above what he was recruited as. He's caught alot of balls. (not for alot of yards I know)

Then there is always the other side of the coin. Iowa has had not highly sought after kids perform great. The problem(s) to me aren't the kids and the talent. I think this group can play. I think it's the style of play and play calling. You can't be predictable and to play macho run first football you have to be head and shoulders better then your opponent to do well at it. Iowa is good but not so good that if the other team pretty much knows your running the ball and to what side it's pretty easy to defend. It's a numbers game and all three of Iowas opponents this year have stacked the box. Iowas Oline can all have a hat on a hat but there is usually a LB or safety running free unblocked...

To answer your first question however I think Iowa has them in Smith, Powell, Willies and Canzeri. Throw in the TEs if they'd use them up the seams more. They just don't use them in a way that showcases that. Could Oregon or Baylor play with Iowas group? I don't know how they'd match up but I think they can all play.
