It was luck, or timing, or whatever you want to call it. Rhodes needed players so he took a look at a kid who would have never been recruited if it wasn't for those circumstances. It was a matter of good timing that ISU got a new coach, who needed players and had a spot open to take a chance on the kid. I say good for Rhodes, and good for Knott, and if you want to think that Rhodes is a genius and unearthed a diamond in Knott, go right ahead. I am from Waukee and root for Knott, and am glad he got the chance he did. I'm just telling you what went down.....

Knott's best offer was N. Illinois, and UNI was in the mix. A couple Dakota programs had offered as well. Not bad, not great.

The story floating around back in 09 was that when Rhoads got to Ames he called upon CIML coaches and asked them who they thought was being overlooked by Iowa/ISU(BCS programs in general). Knott's name apparently came up more than once, and he went from there.
