I am fine with KF, but he needs to change. These are changes that I want to see to have any confidence in the current coaching staff.
1) @KirkFerentz, Chief Marketing Officer.
I want him to tweet. I want him to be our cheerleader. Sure Beils has disappointed this season in Madison, but you know what, he had everyone talking about Wisconsin for the first part of the year. He welcomed the hype, he hyped it up more. Wisconsin was THE story of CFB for the first half of the year. Kids need to see this, they need to see their head coach getting pumped up with them. KF needs to go to an exciting personality training class. He needs to realize that he is not just the head coach, he is the face of the program and his face is boring. This will help recruiting immensely.
2) Zero coachable mistakes by the coaching staff.
You expect players to be out of position, to not execute. You also expect that your coaching staff isn't relying on 100% execution and zero margin of error for the team to play well. You expect simple clock management decisions to be second nature. YOU EXPECT A HEAD COACH WHO KNOWS THEY MIGHT TRY TO EXECUTE AN ONSIDE KICK TO PUT HIS ******* HANDS TEAM OUT THERE, AND NOT WORRY ABOUT THE ******* FIELD POSITION.
3) In game adjustments.
I am fine with our base packages. But why can't we play man coverage when the opponent puts their #1 receiver in the slot to try to match up against a line backer? We've had CB who can play man over the past three years and rarely if ever do we.
4) If it works, abandon it immediately.
Yup, we need to be balanced. Forget the 28 point comeback against Pitt. Huddle up, run it again. We need to be balanced. NO YOU DON'T, YOU NEED TO ******* WIN ASSHAT. Forget about statistics, start worrying about wins and losses.
5) Put the Best 22 on the field. PERIOD.
This has been a continuous issue under the Ferentz era. This is big time college football, seniority goes out the window. Seniors need to earn their spot too. I seriously doubt that our best 22 players are on the field, especially on defense.
6) Immediately address the serious attrition problem.
It is hard for ANY team to win with a third of its players leaving. This goes squarely on KF's back. He is recruiting these kids, and it is his job to keep them on campus. Either you are seriously misjudging their character and fortitude during the recruiting process, or you are doing something once they get on campus to make them feel uneasy. This is 100% on the coaching staff and it is KILLING OUR PROGRAM
7) You should never be able to Game Plan to beat Iowa.
The blue print is out there. It used to be that only teams that executed it perfectly could hang with us. Now Indiana, Northwestern and Minnesota both hang with us and beat us with regularity by following the blue print. If you require 100% execution for your team to not have the worst team in CFB not beat you, that is on your game plan and scheme, not on the players not executing. THERE NEEDS TO BE A MARGIN OF ERROR FOR OUR PLAYERS.
8) I can't wait until Doyle gets a hold of... A resumé.
Seriously, what evidence is there that this guy is the machine that everyone says he is. THE BULLIES OF THE BIG TEN WERE SEVEN YEARS AGO! Since then we've been slow, undersized, out muscled, out conditioned and yes Rhabdo'ed. We have seniors on the defensive line who can't get a pass rush against a second string OL that plays for the worst team in the country. This is pathetic. Yes our defensive line is horrendous, but we are outmuscled by everyone. Strength and conditioning. Non existant. See ya Doyle.
9) There's more to the game than shooting. There's fundamentals and defense.
Yes Norman Dale, there is. We have a QB who have all the physical tools, but not all the mental ones. He is no longer young, he is no longer green, and he was ANNOINTED by the coaching staff as the second coming. The guy does not look like he wants to be on the football field when he plays away from Iowa City.
10) Who is our Super Bowl?
At some point we need to accept the fact that it isn't about being a Super Bowl, it is about bad teams knowing that we are their opportunity for a win because they can game plan against us. Who do we get pumped up for? Who do we always beat that we have no business beating? It doesn't happen. Because we never game plan to win, we game plan to execute our schemes. Why do we not look at what the opposing teams are 100% going to do and try to stop that, rather than hoping our base packages will be good enough?
There you have it. 10 things that need to change, and only one coach fired.
It's not too late for this staff, but it is close. Unless the DL is an unprecedented improvement next season, we will be worse in 2012.
That gives KF one more year on a very hot seat in 2013 to resurrect the program. He did it in three years with far less talent than he has now, but he has to shred the ****** and start oer.
