Cezar Guerrero's FB fan page

I might follow him. But actually posting on his wall would just be beyond creepy.

Yeah, I don't friend high school kids, but his fan page? It's his... fan page. A little fanatical, but not creepy. Kind of like the time we went to watch Michael Payne play in a high school holiday tournament in Illinois in 1981, just to see the future Hawkeye man-child. Definitely fanatics. Definitely not creepy.

Watching them play is different, especially if they've already committed. Guerrero isn't in the bag for us. We probably got a big boost, but it's not over yet.

But IIRC, we (Iowa fans) got on the nerves of a potential football recruit this year because of all the messages he was getting on Facebook. Other schools had fans doing it too, but Iowa made up the vast majority. There's also potential for recruiting violations in that, too.

Its not his personal page, but a fan page that you just "like"
I agree. All you have to do is "LIKE" the page and many Hawks fans have left the kid a nice message. Whom ever started the page posted that Cezar will read and respond to the messages, can't help in recruiting the kid if people show some class and don't get creepy.

It's one thing to friend, like, or follow a recruit.

But sending messages / wall posts can cross a line, both in oddity and violations.
Big grey area, for sure.

No gray area here. 'communicating' with a recruit in a purposeful manner and as a fan is weird. It's one thing to go to a recruits game (that's being a fan), but another thing entirely to communicate (or attempt to) via social media (that's creepy and fanatical).

Anybody know the actual rules on this one? I am in the minority it seems so far in thinking a general comment on a FB fan page is okay, but does it actually break a NCAA rule?

If it would, I am going to go pose as an Auburn fan and start posting on every one of their recruits pages.

Man, that page bummed me out. I really have my doubts this player is all that impressive if Iowa can only scrounge up 135 guys to cyber-stalk him.

If you're a season ticket holder in any sport, it could easily be construed as a violation, because you have to donate to the UI Foundation to get season tickets, making you a booster in the eyes of the NCAA. Students would maybe be okay, as well as fans who didn't graduate from or donate to the university.

Not true. Plenty of football season ticket holders who don't donate. Same for basketball, I'm sure.

I thought you had to donate a little to get tickets (unless you're a student, obviously)? Or is that just to get the better seats?

As of last season the endzone ticket holders didnt have to donate. Then I believe it is something like 200,300,400,500 as you get closer to the 50yd line.

Ah, gotcha. At least I know where I'll be sitting after graduation now :) (the donation thing had me a little iffy about getting season tickets right out of school)

Not bad seats either, I've sat there a few times. 1 con is if your in front of the jumbo tv it sucks, but the flipside your shaded by it too.:)

I like sitting in the corner. I usually sit right above the tunnel to the concourse between sections 219 and 220. Perfect seats as far as seeing the game goes, IMO. The only thing that sucks is that you're fairly high up and exposed to the northerly wind as you get to October/November.
