Celtics Hire Brad Stevens of Butler

Stevens is also a guy who has been employing statistical analytics and more NBA teams are going to that. Also not a bad three year stretch to rebuild while the best player on the planet gets three years closer to being done.

The celtics have a ton of draft picks the next two years, too.

As a Celtics fan I cringed when I saw this headline as I vaguely remember the Pitino experiment and how awful that was.

You are right about the draft picks, IIRC Boston has 2 first round picks in 5 of the next 6 drafts. The problem with those picks is they are more than likely to be non-lottery picks, except for their own pick next year for sure and possibly the year after. Unlike the NFL, finding impact players at the end of the 1st round of the NBA draft is hard to do.\

Pipe dream for me is for Boston to be dreadful next year and win the lottery and for the Nets to tank and miss the playoffs and get the 2nd pick in the lottery. Boston then selects Wiggins and Parker.

This made me laugh. Poor Steve

@SteveDeaceShow: wow...Brad Stevens, maybe the best basketball coach in the country, leaves Baylor for the Boston Celtics. College basketball's loss.

Is that really Deace?

Im looking forward to his prediction threads again this year for college football. He is usually so good at predicting the games.

Pitino taking on dual roles as a GM and HC was a fail. Experiment would have worked if Tim Duncan had become a Celtic......D*mn ping pong balls.:)

Ton of draft picks, you build around Jeff Green and Jared Sullinger, deal rondo .......it could work.

Building around a guy who missed an entire season because of a heart problem and a chubby 21 year old with back problems doesnt give me a lot of confidence for the future of the Celtics.

Indeed, although the ping pong bolls did the Celtics a huge favor in the 2007 lottery. Worst record in the league again and Boston more than likely would have selected Greg Oden and never made the move for KG and Ray Allen if they had won the lottery.

Jeff Green looked okay in the playoffs against the knicks........as a starting point you can get 12 and 10 out Sullinger unless his back is completely f'd up.

You cant build a team around a 12 and 10 guy.

Like I stated in the previous post it is a starting point. You are counting on Stevens and his staff to develop sullinger to put up better numbers than that, but getting on the court right now he should be able get you 12 and 10. With the Heat, Pacers, Bulls and Nets light years ahead of celtics right now it is not like they do not have time to develop sullinger.

I am a life-long Celtics fan. This is an interesting hire. The Celtics are starting fresh so will be interesting to see how he adapts to the NBA style. I am intrigued by the hire. Could turn out to be a great hire ... Time will tell. It won't happen overnight but I think Ainge realizes this is not a quick fix.
