101-it's not like we just won the conference, or upset the #1 team, but IMO, this was awesome for Matt Gatens. The kid's career couldn't have been how he imagined it would go. Matt had the game of his life, and we swept Wisky for the first time in 16-17 years?

The students were into the game the whole way. Matt will always remember that night.

Agree with you Drake. While it wasn't a monumental occasion, I still don't have a problem with people celebrating success.

They say "act like you've been there before". To that, my response is this:

Do you celebrate your birthday? It isn't like you haven't had one before.

I really don't have a problem with people celebrating success, especially considering the past few years.

According to some people on here today we should of just politely clapped and shuffled out of the building single file after the game was over.

It was a little awkward seeing the students on the floor behind WI's hoop with 32 seconds left and a 5 point lead. We may need to rehearse "game over" situations. Very cool to see the students show up and be rowdy. I counted two teletubbies and one Gumby and if memory serves, there were 5 giant heads paraded around CHA vs. the usual 1. Nice to see Gatens and Basabe get body passed by the crowd.

Also walked out near a group of WI fans heading back to their chartered bus and it was nice that nobody said anything stupid or threw snowballs etc. This courtesy would not be extended to Iowa fans in Madison.

I think rushing the court/field after a win is usually a little cheesy. However, these players, and most importantly, this program needs to experience these moments (and it's a great moment to show potential recruits too). That scene towards the end of the game when the student section was literally right behind the basket distracting the FT shooter was awesome to watch.

That building was electric last night, and I hope the do a "students get in free" for the NW game too.

It wasn't like everyone stormed the court.

It was the students that did. Peers celebrating with each other. I do not have a problem with this in the least bit. The crowd did their part and the team did theirs. Let them Rush Gatens deserves to fill that feeling with the career he has suffered through.

If you are not a student and you stormed the court then grow up your not in Ol' school.

This. Rushing the floor was more about Matt than beating Wisky IMO. They may not get to do it again and show their appreciation. What are they going to do storm the floor if we beat NW? No problem with it whatsoever.

If you don't like the rush, don't go to games. It's called fun. Players and coaches don't have an issue with it,when your to old to like it, stay home.:)

It just does not matter if people go onto the court. In football, it has become more of a tradition rather than a "stormin' the field" sort of event because we won a big game. Iowa fans just go onto the court and the field because they can.

Most schools won't allow people onto the field after a game or onto the court. Iowa does and I give them credit for allowing it. If schools did, more people would be on the fields than just Iowa...

I think it is a great tradition to form....the people like it and the players like it. What is there to argue about?

I understand it after putting up with the Lick years, but they are only 9-6 in the conf. Shouldn't even be ranked after this week, don't know how they were 15 to start with. But the players serve the excitement., especially Gatens.

I think it is great. The team (especially Gatens) deserves it. Did anyone else see C.J. Fiedorowicz on the floor right as the game got over? He was right in front of the camera partying with his fellow students.

I've always found that statement ridiculous. The vast majority of rushers are students. Many of whom HAVEN'T been there before. In a four or five year college career how many times do students get the chance to storm the field or court and celebrate a big win? Less than a handful.

Let 'em rush and enjoy it. And when it happens the next year or the year after, remember that it's a new experience for a lot of those kids.

I noticed C.J. out on the floor as well. Good to see other athlets out there supporting the BB Team. One big Hawkeye family.:)

You couldn't buy better publicity for Hawkeye basketball on national TV. Students who have not shown up for previous games will be much more inclined to continue coming, considering the great atmosphere and fun they had supporting a young team playing their hearts out.

For recruits considering Iowa, who would not want to play the fun passionate uptempo game they saw in front of a raucous student body?

I am so excited we are finally killing snakes!

GO HAWKS!!!!!!!
