CBS Bracketology has Iowa #1

I just realized, I will be heading to Augusta, GA for the Masters during the Nat'l Championship game, so I'll be glad winter will (hopefully) be over (unless Iowa is playing in it), then that will suck

You lucky s.o.b., I went to the US Open last year and going to PGA Championship this year. Masters is the pinnacle though, especially from a spectator perspective. Bucket list for sure.

Hawkeye Football, Hawkeye Basketball, golf season....my annual passions(except for the kids...of course). When they are all good...it's awesome. Well, my golf game is never good, I did get the hdcp to 7 before the twins were born 3 years ago....now, about 10 and struggling at that...

Go Hawks...3 teams who will all crack the top 5...whoa.

Even if Iowa loses to Maryland on Thursday they should only drop to a 2 seed.

Kinda scary seeing Duke hanging around the 7-9 seed. What 1 or 2 seed wants to face Duke in the round of 32? Kansas is currently looking at facing Duke and Michigan State just to get to the Elite 8. No thanks

You can go through Des Moines to Chicago. The 1st and 2nd round sites aren't tied to the regionals. Iowa is a 1 playing in Des Moines then going West. Kansas is a 2 playing in Des Moines then going to Chicago.

Each of the 1st and 2nd round sites with have 2 regionals tied to them. This brakcet is saying Xavier is the higher 1 seed then Iowa therefore Xavier gets Chicago as it is closer to their campus than Anaheim while Iowa goes West.

That's OK, after the Hawks finish the B1G at 18-0 and win the conference tournament they'll pass up Xavier anyway...

This is good. Even when we're doing well we don't get the same publicity as a lower ranked big name team, but nonetheless recruits will see this.

I agree ... it does matter. There are 351 D1 programs for basketball and when you are at the top of the heap it's quite an accomplishment. Great visibility for the entire program and the University. A #1 or #2 seed and a run in the tourney certainly will help recruiting of the 2017 and 2018 classes.
^^^ This ^^^

It matters for recruiting. Do you think Malik Williams or other 4/5 star players aren't seeing this?

GO HAWKS!!!

I'm sure they are. It would be nice if ESPN had a front page article about Iowa, though, instead of it being a Duke or Kentucky article every single day.

If this ever happens, hopefully someone posts a link here. That's the only way I'll see it.

Lunardi is to basketball as Cowterd is to football... Both knuckleheads. Go Hawks !

Don't see Lunardi = Cowherd. Cowherd mocked and disrespected Iowa but Lunardi is trying to predict where teams will be seeded. Not like it's a huge insult to have us as a 2 instead of a 1 in January.

Exactly, when they seed the top 4 in each region they then try to have them stay as close to home as possible. They obviously start with 1, then 2, then 3, then 4. By putting the #1 as close as possible that is 2 games gone from that 1st and 2nd round site as you have the 1/16 and the 8/9 games. Then you place the 2 seeds close to home and that is another 2 games, 2/15 and the 7/10 games. Then you go with the 3 and have 3/14 and 6/11, then the 4, 4/13 and 5/12 match ups.

At this point you have the first and second rounds set. In this bracket for example, ISU is a 3 seed and MSU is a 4, ISU is higher seeded therefore they get St. Louis since it is still "open" and MSU gets shipped to Spokane.

Also Iowa is a 1 and Kansas is a 2, those two go to Des Moines so that would mean a 3 or 4 can't come here because it is "filled" and when placing the 3 somewhere they would go to the next closest destination since Des Moines isn't an option anymore.

Good explanation. Thanks!

That's the way I see it. Villanova is still something like #2 in the RPI, and they also have just 3 losses, so I can't act slighted that they stayed on the one line and we remained a 2.

Just keep winning - sweep this week's games, and Iowa will have a pretty strong argument for a 1 seed. Probably will need someone ahead of us to lose again, though. Maybe the Clones do us a favor and beat KU tonight...

Wow, it's just weird seeing that. Time to seriously think about getting tickets for the Des Moines region.

Good luck with that- tickets have been sold out since the day they went on sale. Honestly, your best bet is to hang out in Des Moines and buy from the fans whose teams lose on Thursday.

I would love to see Iowa in St Louis.

I would host a pregame tailgate. I do live about 40 minutes from the venue, though.
