Canzeri's Dad

He's ****** because he feels his kid is being strung along. He also said "better redshirt". He's not demanding that Jordan see the field. He's demanding that Jordan either see the field or get redshirted, instead of dangling a piece of meet in front of him for the next month.

The redshirt comment was last. Before that, it was "time to start looking" and "selfish conservatism". Frankly, I'd be glad for a coaching staff that practiced "selfish conservatism" when it came to my kid's health.

I don't understand what is so confusing about this.

"Jordan - you tore your ACL and we're not in a rush to bring you back, but if Weisman and Bullock both can't play you're next in line to Garmon."

Um pretty sure the definition of being selfish is for you to insist on blowing a year of eligibility for 5 games.

I'm with whoever said that the guys only game to date, he averaged 2 YPC. I have no idea what the love affair is with this guy. He may end up great, and it's not fair to judge a guy off ofone game, but that one game didn't make me believe that we were sitting on the next Barry Sanders.

No one has hyped him to be the next Barry Sanders. The guy ran hard, showed good vision, and was pretty tough considering how small he was. That was his freshman year in a bowl game against OKLAHOMA. We were a terrible team last year that had no business playing a team like Oklahoma. Don't play it off like we were playing some FCS school behind the 2002 line where he should've ran wild. If Canzeri had some of the holes that Weisman has had all year, you'd all be singing a different tune.

Let him go. If he did not hit the field last week he is never going to.

We had guys dropping like flies last week. I'm glad Canzeri didn't see the field. He needs to redshirt and get 100%. He may be "cleared", but it doesn't mean he isn't more susceptible to injury.

How is telling him he will play if there are more injuries, otherwise we don't need him this season "stringing him along"? Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

Not sure what exactly the coaches have told him, but I would be a little concerned if they actually told my son he wasn't healthy enough to play, but then said at the same time that he would be available to play if needed in an emergency. Sounds like a contradiction to me. I have no idea if that is what happened but that seems like what he may be implying.

I would just like to say the burning of a RS in the middle of a season situation happens more than one would think. I know of a player that was in the middle of his RS year when approached by coaches about a position change and the possibility of playing as a true frosh. It didn't happen and the player took his RS and stayed at the position that they were at but coaches are trying to win games and talking to players about position changes and or burning a RS happens a lot more than many people know.

Which again is why I think it was stupid for Canzeri's dad to go on twitter and complain. (if that is indeed his dad's account)

If any player doesn't want to switch positions or burn their RS they can talk to the coaches about it, just as KF has said plenty of times about asking guys who wants to RS and who would like to play, Matt Roth being the one that seems to be brought up the most.

As a player, working your *** off in practice every week knowing that you probably aren't going to play can be tough but I would hope the player and parents would see the big picture and know there are pretty logical reasons why this happens.

+1

I'd add he was a good receiving option out if the back field. Did he not score a TD on a screen?
Point being... He no chopped liver.

"So he's not well enough to play, but available if needed? Time to start looking"

"Selfish Conservatism"

"Getting strung along is BS. Better redshirt".

There you go Duff.

That's it? That's all he said? Those 3 little sentences are enough for all of you to get your panties in a bunch about?

I wonder what would have happened if he followed along with 3/4 of the board and said it was time for Kirk to be fired?

The problem really is the lack of creativity in Iowa's scheme. Canzeri could help and be protected. But if the only thing you can offer a back is running from an I formation 30 times a game, it is a bad idea.

The same thing goes for Garmon. He has never run out of an I, but they expect him to do it as a frosh in the B1G?! Let the kid get experience in situations which he is used to while working on him developing his between the tackles game in practice.

Both of these guys could thrive in space, but are not ready to carry the load between the tackles.

Google Rocky Hayes to see how each of these guys should be used.

I understand the Dad's frustration, but he was the one who let his kid go to a school with an offense for which is not well-suited

Everyone talks about Canzeri like he's some amazing player....pretty sure he averaged 2 yards a carry in the bowl he started....

Understandable. But JC has something that very few Iowa players do. Quickness and speed. Not only can he get to top gear quickly, his top gear is fast. On that little swing pass he took to the house against Oklahoma he showed it. He just moves at completely different pace than any other Hawkeye.

Yes, he's small and coming off a major injury so who knows if he'll have that same ability and how long he can stay on field. But on a roster than seems to be getting slower as the years go by, JC is a very valuable player for Iowa.

To be fair, though, he's not demanding that Jordan play. All he's calling for is a decision: Is he going to play, or isn't he? For a kid in Jordan's position, I don't think that's necessarily an unfair question.

It is when it's the dad demanding this answer and going about it the way he did. If it were Jordan asking the question behind closed doors face to face, then nothing wrong with that at all.

The kid will tranfer after this year. If I was Kirk, I would play him for 1 play and burn his RS..Serves him right.

Maybe it was ultimately Jordan's decision and dad didn't get the final vote. Understand what your saying, but alot of parents would actually allow their child to select the school of their choice, since they'll be the one actually attending. Sorry, not trying to be harsh, but way to often I see parents trying to live their lives through their children. While parental feeback is important it's the kids choice to make, not the parents.

Unless you are Cam Newton's daddy.

You're absolutely right. He should get them in on stretch plays or swing passes or receiving kicks. That's how these guys should be utilized!! Dang it, Ferrets!
