Canzeri?

What's with Canzeri not playing at all? Injury? Hard to believe that even if Daniels passed him up, that Canzeri wouldn't see the field.

I like Canzeri but I don't think he can work as rb in our system. He's too easy to tackle and can't get a few extra yards. I think bullock ran better than I've seen. More north and south and Daniels is going to be good. He moved the pile 5 yards against ohio state. I wonder if Canzeri could play safety in pass situations. We could use his speed there for sure. Maybe kick returns or slot but as a rb I don't see it. Just my thoughts.

It seems to me the problem with Canzeri is that he is a RB in a slot receiver/kick return specialists body. But you can't use him as a WR/KR because he can't catch the ball that well and you can't use him as a B!G RB because my grandma could tackle him with one arm.

Your grandma cannot tackle him with one arm.

Perhaps the Braintrust should put in some specific plays for him, such as jet sweep, tunnel & bubble screens? I think it is short-sighted to not try and utilize his speed. Or, how about some wildcat? Hell, even my beloved Steelers ran the wildcat yesterday. What would you do if Powell, Canzeri and CJ were lined up in a bunch formation?

He's not playing because this team may have figured out its identity, which is employing two or three tight ends and running a power back behind it. Canzeri just doesn't fit with this system right now. Also, he is terrible in pass protection, which is something Ferentz has stated his running backs HAVE to be able to do consistently.

I'd probably go zone protection.

no kidding. You have to use what you have. Take a group and only work on 4/5 plays. Sooner or later youll need those plays no matter your identity. Plus working on select plays allows them to be executed at a very high level. Then it is much easier to make game time adjustments because instead of over thinking it, you throw in a "package" for a series and see how it works.

JC has good speed and quickness, but early in the year I noticed that he didn't fine the hole and wasnt doing the things other RBs were. He was cutting it back when he shouldn't, not waiting for blocking on the stretch play...So he fell behind. Maybe right now he's figured all that out who knows but it's too late.

Then he transfers. I mean, he looks quick and I'd love to see him do well, but I don't understand why this is always implied as the result of a coaching oversight. The running backs were not the problem at OSU this past weekend, and the idea that he's a home run threat remains merely an "idea" unless he actually starts playing and hitting home runs.

Send him to Wisconsin. They would know how to use him.

What leads you to believe that Canzeri is an underutilized gem that Iowa's coaching staff, who sees him in action every day, has failed to utilize? What evidence do you have that makes you think he should be playing more?
