Canzeri medically cleared for return

There's this from Hawkeyes: Kirk Ferentz on the SideBig Ten

Q: Do you still do any ACL math with Canzeri?

Ferentz: Not really. It’s like any injury. The medical people tell us when it’s safe for them to return. Our job is to look at the player practice and perform. It’s very conceivable that a guy can be cleared medically and not by us, it depends on the injury and position. One day at a time. He was cleared to play last week. It’s a matter of when can he…part of that is the player’s level of confidence, too. That is a big part of it

Q: How did he look in practice?

Ferentz: He looked OK. To the casual observer you would not know he is injured. But he hasn’t done a great volume of work either.

Hes been cleared for a month or more. What he isnt is strong enough to contribute. Canzeri will not be a factor this year.

My feeling is that he will work out the next three weeks, and we see him back for Michigan State.

I still think he red shirts. We have guys back there that can be effective for now. I'm for letting the guy ease back into practice, and hopefully come back 100% for a strong season in 2013.

No reason to rush him back right now and burn a red-shirt year. He'll practice, but won't play unless absolutely needed.

Was Greenway "not a factor" when he torn his ACL the third week in March and then played in October? Canzeri has a shot to be back after the bye week. If it goes much later than that and I wouldn't pull the redshirt.

If he can play at any point this year, play him. The odds of him being at the University of Iowa as a 5th year senior are extremely low. And I don't believe in AIRBHG.

greenway was the linebacker with NFL talent. canzeri is an undersized running back.

Running game is really hurting. Not like he is a receiver, where we seem to have about 6 deep, and ball catchers. Running game, we probably need him to rush right back in.

This is a sign...

AIRBHG is obviously weak and vulnerable if Canzeri can come back THIS quickly...and he will undoubtedly be distracted wondering "How can this be?"...and now The Mossad can slay him!

In addition to the other comment on this post I must add that I was at that october game and Greenway looked VERY GIMPY. I worked in ortho for a few years..there are so many different grades of ACL tears its not even funny. Greenway looked gimpy tho in that game.

Greenway was painful to watch when he came back. Clearly slower laterally.

If he is ready to play, then I hope they trot him out there. I used to try and strategize with how I thought running backs and redshirts should be used. Given the ongoing situation at Iowa, I no longer believe in "saving" guys for next year. If they can help, play em. Its possible/likely they won't be around to help next year.

I agree that if coaches feel he is ready to play, based on practice performance, then he should play. Some of current RBs could play different position in coming years. I know Malloy was considered as a slot receiver at one time, I think Canzeri would be able to play the slot as well. Weisman can be a fullback so there is flexiblity there. Of course injuries and other factors will be primary consideration of who plays where.

I must agree with HawkeyeShane on this one. Clearly this is a setback for AIRBHG. He is reeling now. He would like nothing better than to see Canzeri back on the field in a vulnerable state so he could rack him up again.

We must bide our time. And when AIRBHG is further weakened..........we strike!

This will be treated like a 3rd and 10 situation with 35 seconds left before half time. Mr. Conservative will keep on the sidelines and I agree with him. No way he'll see the field this year.
