Can we put to bed the "I'm staying no matter what"

Fuller said this all year long....and people on this board were actually stupid enough to believe him. From now on it should mean absolutely nothing when a Iowa player says this.

Some people were critical of the media for asking questions of Fuller at three straight press conferences related to the rumors of him wanting to leave.

The reason those questions were asked was because the media kept hearing credible things that made them keep asking the questions. Keep that in mind the next time around, too...I hope we don't have to worry about it any longer.

At some point it comes across as insecurity on behalf of the fans and especially the press that have ask it over and over again. If they have a legit source why ask?

Rather than "stupidity" being involved, maybe someone should realize that there was a major change in the leadership of the program between Fuller's earlier comments and his decision to leave subsequent to that change.

Look for Brommer to follow Fuller out of the program. Ironically, both did intend to stay and told Barta this before he fired Lickliter. Most likely Barta had a pretty good idea that Fuller, Brommer, maybe Larson might leave, but felt he had no choice.

The greater irony is that replacing Lickliter with McCaffery doesn't eliminate the problems of factions and dissension on the team; but, dammit, hopefully McCaffery can do a better job of knowing his players and their attitudes and Barta will have learned that he needs to know what is going on in his basketball program.

You actually believe the players have any say in whether they are staying or not. Wake up and smell the empty seats.

Are you saying arguably our best player was forced to leave? I dont understand your comment. Why don't the players have any say as to whether they stay or transfer?

I inferred that he was addressing the specific fanbase that refused to pull their head out of the sand by insisting "see, he SAID he was coming back. That is unequivocal proof that he is" as a reason to keep Lickliter. When confronted with "yeah, but Jake Kelly said that last year and he's gone", it was just more "he SAID he was coming back. [insert personal attack on poster questioning the validity of such statement here] ... just because you don't like Lickliter."

It's amazing. I thought there were so many ridiculous people out there that pegged Alford as the worst guy ever and continue to do so to this day. And now, we almost see the opposite. There are those who are now going equally crazy claiming Lickliter was somehow doing well here. With those guys, everything was (still is?) Alford's fault, yet now, nothing is Lickliter's fault. Fuller was out of here - and somehow that is not Lick's fault, it is now Fran's. Well, sorry, I apologize to those of you who will still blame that one on Alford.

I blame some of this mess on Alford, though he has no direct impact on what's happening now. I put much more blame on Bowlsby's shoulders, for numerous reasons. Barta made a hire that didn't work out, and that's on him. Lickliter didn't connect well with players, and THAT is on him. There's even some blame that falls on us for running out Mr. Davis. There's plenty to go around.

I wondered how long it would take for this to become Alford's fault. Fran will get this turned and happiness will return.:)

So what do they smell like?

I honestly felt through the people I had talked with that Aaron was going to stick this out, but with what went down he couldn't stay at Iowa. I'm sure he will find success in Arizona or somewhere in the area.

The new coach has to free up scholarships to be able to bring in his own palyers. What is so difficult about that?
Wait and see how many players leave to be "closer to home".

Do not blame the players. They are victims in this.

Yep, they are right now. But when they don't play up to many fans' standards, everybody just feel free to totally dump on them. Don't know how to make the sarcastic emoticon.
