Can someone explain to me how NW is even on the bubble?

Northwestern Wildcats Basketball 2011-12 Schedule - Wildcats Home and Away - ESPN

Take a look at their schedule - they are 17-12 and 7-10 in conference. From my count they have exactly two quality wins (Mich St and Seton Hall) one was at home and one was on a neutral court. They have exactly ZERO quality road wins and other than the Mich St win all of their other conference wins came against Ill, Minny, Nebby, Penn st (twice) and Iowa. They have 1 quality conference win in 17 tries. 1 out of 17! The only things I can see they have going for them is a decent RPI around 50 and they play in the Big Ten.

So how in the world is this team on the bubble? Is the bubble really that soft? Playing in one of the best conferences can only be used as an argument if you actually win some games against the better teams. NW on the bubble makes no sense to me. Their resume is uglier than Shurna's shot.

If someone could tell me what I am missing here I would appreciate it.

I agree that their resume is extremely ugly, but uglier then Shurnas shot? Come on man, nothings that ugly

No bad losses. If Iowa beats them today it would be their first loss to a team outside the RPI top 100.

That and conference strength.

and to answer your bubble question, this year the bubble really is that soft. most analysts have stated that at one time or another.

i think their SOS is like #7 or something way high.

I agree this is probably the reason but if thats the basis they are getting in because they played a tough schedule....doesnt matter that they lost all but one of those tough games I guess. Getting curb stomped by 30 against Baylor is as good as a win this year!

They haven't had a "terrible" loss this year. Also the pity factor of never making the dance comes into play. After Iowa wins today they will be officialy off the bubble. I don't even understand why they are a popular pick for making the NIT over Iowa.

*They play in a top conf
*rpi is upper 40's
*sos is around top ten
*NO quality loses

I hate to say it, but if our Hawkeyes had the same exact resume we'd be screaming 'mad again'

If we had beaten the teams below us like NW did...we wouldn't be a bubble team. We'd be a lock.
