I will add that Fran is equally likeable in other nonbasketball situations as well. Interacted with a couple times, once at relay for life (Margaret and Fran were honoray chairs) and the other he came and read for national reading day at my daughters daycare. Just an engaging personality that is fun to be around.

I will agree with Jon that the team overall has underperformed but the past 3 weeks has overperformed. Siena fans always said the best part about Fran's teams is they got better as the year went on. We saw it last year and starting to see it this year. The question going forward is will that equate to enough wins to show real progress. I think 6 more wins the rest of the year would be a huge step in the right direction. In the future, it will be interesting to see if he can get his teams playing better early so they can get some needed RPI points prior to Big Ten play.

I should add, that he is also immensely more likeable (at least in the public) than both of the aforementioned coaches.

If you have ever run into KF in Iowa City, attended an I-Club function, or been involved in one of the many charity functions he donates his time to, you would know how wrong this is.

I really, really like Fran McCaffery as our basketball coach. I really, really hate the way that some Iowa fans use every time he is praised as an opportunity to bash KF. It makes no sense to me.

Agree olive, KF is a good person who does a lot of charity work behind the scenes without making a big deal out of it like some coaches. Perhaps what they meant was that McCaffery is a breath of fresh air in interviews compared to KF and Lick. I really learn something about his thoughts on the game and his players everytime he talks. He doesn't bash but he also doesn't sugar coat....that is a very fine line to walk and he is excellent at it.

There is no doubt that KF is a great person. But he does a poor job in the PR portion of his job. I can see Fran as an analyst during NCAA tourney if the Hawks are exited from the tourney.

Wow. What an absolutely great coach and human being we have in Fran. I think there are going to be some more victories this year, and maybe one or two big upsets as well. The future is so bright for Iowa basketball!
