Seems to me we've come out flat following bye weeks. I'm concerned. Although I do think Mich State sucks.

It's all on JVB and the defense. I feel confident the defense can keep it close, cause that's what they almost always do. If it's close, can JVB make plays? You know MSU is going to blitz like crazy, and anytime he feels the pressure, he panics. We have to take shots down the field, even if we don't complete all of them, just to keep MSU defense honest. We cannot go wtih the dink and dunk game off to our FB or a 3 yard out to CJF. There is nothing to fear from those plays.

I don't see that at all. I think like us, they hope to get pressure with their front four first. Unless their front four isn't getting it done, I don't expect them to blitz until it's 3rd and short to medium.

Actually I think they will bring the house until jvb beats them deep. I do agree they have the same sort of philosophy, but if you watched their game against Michigan last year... they will bring everyone to force you to beat them with your arm. Michigan obviously had trouble doing that last year, and JVB has shown an inability still to diagnose blitzes. The important thing is Iowa HAS to guess right a few times early on these hot routes, or play action schemes to keep them from doing this all game. If they can do this, Weisman should have some openings then to pound on 'em a bit.

Has MSU faced a north-south runner yet? They are fast, so getting to the edge is a problem, something Weisman doesnt really do, he did have some nice runs off the left side, but they werent really "Getting to the edge" type of runs. The way you beat a fast, aggressive D is run it right at them, something we do very well. While the passing game hasnt been great, heck, it hasnt even been OK, it IS getting better each week. We dont need much, just enough of a passing game to take the presure off the run game...Im not sure if I think we can win, but I feel we can keep it close, and give us a chance to pull it off.

We won't be pounding the ball up the middle with Weissman. Most of it will be our standard zone running with either tackle being the key blocker. Up the middle Iowa's offensive line has a size disadvantage compared to MSU's nose & tackle. Like it or not, you will also see more of Davis's short passing game to get the ball to RB's, FB's, TE's in space.

The way I see it is we went into the bye week pretty flat, so it either will help or it won't make a lot of difference.

I think it is going to be a very boring game to watch...lots of runs up the middle...ZZZZZZ
