Burn it to the ground

The biggest problem with this whole situation is that it is quickly ruining any shot Iowa has at capitalizing after what many thought was the turnaround season a year ago. Ferentz and Davis are stepping back into the black hole of an offense that we saw in 2012, and they are doing it when clearly the talent is on the roster to do something better. It is the classic case of Ferentz and Davis trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

The answer is obvious. Put CJ in at QB and open the offense up. Rudock has had his shot and he's failed. Let Willies, Smith, and Powell attack defenses deep and let KMM and the TE core attack them underneath. When you're spreading them out let Canzeri be the slash back. In short yardage situations let Weisman be the hammer. Why they haven't done that yet is absolutely beyond my realm of thinking. I have very little football experience/knowledge compared to them, but the answer seems that obvious. Because of their refusal to do that they are losing recruits, and now Willies is leaving the program. The worst part is I honestly can not say that I blame them. Ferentz prefers to run an offense from the Flintstone era and his stubbornness is crumbling everything around him. If I was an exciting 17 or 18 year old football player I would stay the hell away from KF and GD.

There's still a chance that Iowa wins around 9 games this year. If that occurs, it would be very difficult to oust KF.

There's also a chance Kate Upton will have car trouble right in front of your house. It could happen, but it won't.

With games against NW, IL and Minny, along with some lower tier bowl game, I don't think 9 wins is that much of a long shot.

Iowa football is starting to feel like the end of the Alford era in hoops. Apathy is beginning to set in. Kirk is losing his cache differently than Alford did however.

Anyway, Lee Barfkneckt wrote in the OWH that Michigan is talking with Arkansas' AD to bring him and Biels in a package deal. It's pure speculation at this point, and who knows if he would go there, but I have no doubt Biels could build a juggernaut at Michigan.

How can we take anything seriously written by "Lee Barfkneckt"?

This program is stale and has been for some time. Our coach makes top money and Iowa hasn't been ranked in the top 25 since late 2010. There is a clear problem here are it starts at the top.

Here's the problem , and it's a big one: if Kurt be gone, then freakin Barta and Mason are gonna hire his replacement.

This, kids, is what we call a Catch 22

Barta totally botched the Lickliter hire but I think he redeemed himself with Fran. Perhaps he learned from that mess and will do a better job if the time comes to look for a new football coach. I'm no fan of Barta but I would hope he learned his lesson. The thing that does bother me is that stupid contract he gave Ferentz. Whatever. Fire everyone!

We'll win 7 or 8 games this season, how many programs can say that? On an off year no less.

I like the optimism on a very negative morning in Hawkeyeland, but I'm not sure what you mean by an "off year". Hawks had nearly their entire offense returning including the quarterback and star left tackle who could of went pro. A stable of rb's ready to run behind a good OL. The B1G is weak and Iowa plays in the lesser division only needing to get by Nebraska who Iowa embarrassed last year and a Wisconsin team that can't throw the ball and replaced it's entire front 7 on defense. This "is" the year to go out make something happen. Guys like Herbstreit could even see the path laid down for Iowa and mentioned Iowa as a possible playoff dark horse. Getting 7 or 8 wins this year is more like 5 or 6 with a tougher schedule.

The days of system football are done. Unless you are an elite enough recruiter to bring in talent that fits your system. Ferentz is certainly not that. Today, at a college like Iowa, a coach has to be able to adjust schemes based upon the talent on the roster. It appears that Ferentz is more concerned with trying to make his system work than he is trying to actually win football games. He wants to win a certain way and he wants to do it with "his guys". Rudock is his guy. He's a hell of a kid. He's going to be an outstanding Dr. some day. I have no doubt about that. With that said, he should not be this teams QB anymore. The fact he is such a good kid shouldn't earn him the starting role. His performance should, and it just hasn't been there.

CJ has done damn near everything he's been asked to do, and when he's been in the game he has found a way to make things happen in order to win football games. He deserves a shot to be the man. Not just a couple series here and there. Give him the reigns and see what he can do. If he doesn't get that shot he's going to leave just like Willies has. There's not much else to lose at this point. If Ferentz doesn't do that then this is purely an ego thing. It's going to appear as if he doesn't want to start CJ because he's afraid CJ will prove him wrong and everyone else right.

BB is sure doing a heck of a job losing every game at Arkansas why would you want anything to do with him? There are way better options out there.

Arkansas had no talent left when BB took over and they are now a very solid team. They are much better than their record and should have beaten Bama. BB would be an instant upgrade to what we have now and would be able to bring in recruits......BB Iowa team would be far superior than what KF is going to bring in 3-4 years.

Arkansas is going to win some games next year. Watch

Arkansas is better than any B10 team except for Michigan State, they just play an absolutely brutal schedule, and not like ISU B12 "brutal" either.

Yep. Their schedule includes Auburn, Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, LSU, Ole Miss and Missouri. That's a crazy tough schedule.
