BTN Announces Night Game Schedule: No Iowa

A couple thoughts. Stick with me folks...

There's no night games on BTN scheduled for Oct 5th or Oct 26th. Is there a chance the Mich St or Northwestern game gets picked up if both teams are doing good at that point? The start times for games are usually fluid up to 2 weeks out.

Second thought... Iowa is the only team in the B1G that doesn't have a night game scheduled. I don't necessarily believe this is a product solely of a 4-8 season. Perhaps this is a bit of a stretch, but is it possible the Barta and/or KF suggested no night games to motivate the team?

No. This is the entire prime time schedule. There will be no other b1g games broadcast in prime time unless they are non conference road games that could be picked up by fox, CBS, or NBC sports net.

I agree with your second thought. Barta may have stated they wanted day games on some of the same dates Btn considered for Iowa. But that is just speculation.

So let me get this straight.....

You think Kirk and barta asked for no night games.......is that supposed to make it better?

Thats like saying dont worry Kirk went 3 and out to give the defense motivation to win.

I'm disappointed for no night game at Kinnick this year. Nebraska and Indiana lobby for night games, Barta definitely does not. I'm sure that played into this some.

But I can handle this better if there are more 2:30 kickoffs, especially in September.

While Kirk doesn't care for night road games, Iowa doesn't have much say here. I am convinced Iowa had a 'spring game' because the BTN told them to have something they could package on TV, you know, like every other school in the Big Ten does. Iowa might be able to list some games that are preferences, but in the end I don't think they call any shots here. And no, this is not for motivation.

When is the construction starting with the Children's Hospital renovation?

I know the hospital is a main concern for the University when it comes to night games.

Not having all of your teams represented in at least one night game per season is a joke.

It is already underway.

Then that could be a reason for no night games this year.

In 2005 the only 2:30 kick the Hawks had was early in the year against UNI.

After that they were already working on the Kinnick renovation and all the rest of the home games were 11 AM.

What a freaking joke we have become. When there is more perceived interest from UNLV/Minnesota, Indiana State/Indiana, and Navy/Indiana than any game on our schedule, you know how far in the toilet we've sank. How embarrassing.

So ...

Wyoming (coming off 4-8 season) @ Nebby is more intriguing than BCS bowl participant N Ill @ Iowa on 8/31?

Also, good to see W. Mich getting more BTN night games than Iowa has had in 2 years. At least there will be ample film available on them so they will be well scouted. No loss to directional Michigan team this season!

All in all, what's to complain about. I don't see Ohio State or Michigan getting any BTN night lovin', either.

Think about it from BTN perspective: show a Nebraska whomping Wyoming or NIU BEATING a B1G team AT HOME.

Isnt night games when they pack in the recruits? There are few places that compare to Kinnick during a night game. I think not having a night game is bad for a program that needs a little bit of sexy.

Myth.

EDIT: Game during the day, take recruits out "socializing" in the evening vs. sit in on team meals/meetings all of Friday and Saturday, pack the kid home on Sunday.
Which do you think is better?

Wrong-o.

During the 2002 period between Thanksgiving and Orange Bowl, KF said a key factor in the team's success was "routine": Pretty much EVERY game that year was a noon (Eastern time) game, save the ISU loss, which was a 3:30 (Eastern) game.

And for everyone saying night games are where it's at for recruiting, they don't get to "socialize" with night games like they might with day games.

ISU in 2002 was a later kick than 2:30. More like 5 PM local time.

Iowa seemed to perform just fine in 2009 when they played 3 night games (home against Michigan, at PSU, at MSU).

I dont buy that reasoning just because both teams have to play the waiting game when it comes to night games.

Hawks being under the radar just like in 2002....fine by me. By the end of the season BTN will be scrambling to get the Hawks into the spotlight, but alas...too late...who cares? Just win,Hawks!
