Good news for Iowa basketball. It was so hard always hearing negative stuff about our team. Any thoughts on how much he will contribute (minutes, points, assits, etc.) this year?

It's going to be interesting for all of us Iowa fans to see just how this offense works. Sure, we've seen it briefly watching Siena games, but we aren't embedded with how it will look in Carver. Up tempo, sure, but it's not to say that's all Iowa will do in this offense.

I look for Cully and Bryce to split some time at the point, even give Payne a shot at the 2 if our SG needs a breather.

8 PPG sort of thing I would expect. I really don't know, though.

I'll say this, Bryce looked very comfortable as a true frosh at Fresno.

Spank (or anyone), how many years of eligibility will he have? From the online videos it looks like he likes to run the break, dish the ball and throw ally-oops, but that he's not necessarily a big scorer himself. But would be happy to get more of his story.

I may be mistaken but I believe he only played one yr at fresno state and then sat out a year so he should have 3 remaining with Iowa.

1 year at Fresno Strate
1 year at Paris CC

2 years left of eligibility.

I'm not so sure BC won't be the starter. It will be fun to watch.

I haven't seen BC play so I have no idea how good he is or isn't other than what I hear or read. From my personal experience however, I think Cully will thrive in an up tempo system. It's a misconception (not stated anywhere on this thread) that the PG needs to be real quick to be effective in an up tempo system.

The court is only 94" long and there is not a player alive that is quicker than a well thrown pass. On the offensive end you want a good desicion making, solid ball handling quarterback. I think Cully fits that perfectly.

Where someone has the opportunity to displace a solid 2nd year guy like Payne IMHO, is on the defensive end. If someone can come in and show they can come in hold their own with Cully running the O and outplay him on the defensive end they will take more minutes.

Ultimately both will likely play alot.

+1

I don't know whether Cartwright, Besabe, Marble, et al are the solution and whether they'll have any more success than the last three Iowa MBB teams. But certainly the team and style of play will look a lot, lot different. I'm excited to see what Fran can do, although I fully realize he'll need more time to get the athletes to play his up-and-down game.

I don't think Cully gets enough credit for being explosive. He might not be terribly fast, but he can explode and elevate pretty well with the ball. Now if he could finish when gets to the basket....

I'm also an advocate of playing Cully off the ball some. His handles and athleticism allow him to get his shot easier than Gatens or May in my opinion. I think we should free him from the pg duties and let him work off ball for periods of time.
