Brutal Truth: Wisconsin now occupies the spot Iowa was supposed to

Look at Iowa and Wisconsin in 2008/2009.

Wisconsin was the mid level team, struggling to achieve the next level and Iowa had seemingly all the momentum in the world.

The game against Wisconsin in 2010 that collapsed our season and rocketed Wisconsin intho the stratosphere seemingly has become the new normal.

Wisconsin has momentum, has been to two straight Rose Bowls and shows no sings of slowing down.

Meanwhile, Iowa.... well we all saw last night.

Forget wisconsin.....Iowa is still under NW. Wisconsin has laped Iowa. By the time kirk is done Iowa will be looked at the same as Minny, Illinois and Indiana.

We didn't look all that great in 08-09. That was a lot of smoke and mirrors. Wisconsin has built a much better program.

It wasn't smoke and mirrors in 2008. With any sort of QB stability to start that year, that team was stacked. Both years had Top 10 national defenses. That's not smoke and mirrors.

When Iowa was high in 2001-2004 (38-12), Wisconsin fans were talking about firing Barry Alvarez (27-22). The two teams play a similar brand of football and are in on a lot of the same kids. Not highly likely that both are going to be in good modes at the same time.

Were it not for a transfer at QB last year, they would have struggled to win eight games. Budmyr would not have gotten it done.

All that said, the Iowa program is not trending well right now.

If the "spot" is behind Penn State and Ohio State and sleepwalking into the conference championship game by default, then yeah they are occupying that spot. They aren't any better than Nebraska or Michigan either this year. So they are one of five teams that might be the best in the conference. They have to finish better than Illinois, Purdue, and Indiana to punch their ticket to Indy for a toss-up game against another team of roughly equal talent/mediocrity.

I wish we could lose the Rose Bowl two years in a row, and be the team with the honor of losing one to a Mountain West team.

This will be the last year Wisconsin will even have a shot at the division. OSU will dominate that division for the decade. They're bubble will pop in the next few years.

Well at least they will have a bubble to pop. We will be just fighting and clawing to stay out of the cellar in our own division.

Why do Hawk fans hate Bielema so much? I met him multiple times and always thought he was a nice guy.

These things go in cycles. Someone will replace Wisconsin too. It won't be us, but another mid-tier team will.

My money is on Purdue.

Bret Bielema takes chances and isnt scared to ruffle feathers. He fires his offensive line coach in week 2 and benches his qb for a redshirt frosh who had never taken a snap in week 3. Why? Because it wasnt going in the direction he wanted and now has turned their season around for the better. What does KF do? continues to play to a god awful quarterback that is going nowhere and just stays the course.
