Brust has 18 new offers!! WOW!

I think this means he liked part of the old staff and now has the chance to check some places that popped up for whatever reason since he committed.

I do not think anyone has made him out to be bad, I do think that some have underestimated his true ability. I also believe that Iowa still has a decent shot at him. Time will tell...

I guess we'll have to wait and see what schools made the offers. I'm certainly not saying he isn't a nice player, but whether he fits into the style of play Fran is going to bring is another question.

Again, I think Fran has participated in this rodeo three different times and I'm confident he knows what he is doing. If Fran thinks Ben can help us, then I hope Ben chooses to be a Hawkeye. If not, then I wish Ben the best.

I was just joking about that statment. I always find it funny how as soon as someone decommits there it is always followed by 'oh, he wasn't that good anyway', etc.

It appears Larson and Brust are the real deal and neither are coming to Iowa. I still think the coaching change needed to be done. Coach Fran has my support.

I will elaborate a bit and say that I think Fran is looking for guards who can put defensive pressure on the ball. I don't think that is the strong suit for Ben. He will fit in well somewhere, but I think Fran knows what he's doing and I'll trust his abilities.

Part of what we're seeing with the kids who decommitted, and with any decent prospect who is unsigned in the Spring, is that interest is greatly maginified because the number of available kids is smaller and lots of programs have identified needs that they didn't fill in the Fall or didn't even have until this Spring.

I would chalk a lot of the Brust feeding frenzy up to that. I think he's a solid player, but I would be just as happy with a good juco guard.

Assuming that Iowa still wants him, though, please note this passage from the ESPN article, which is a little more promising than other stories I've read:

"Iowa is in the mix, but he just has to see who else falls in that mix," Weinstein said. "The most important thing will be academics. Two, he can play fast or slow. I don't think that matters. I think Iowa's new system fits him perfectly. Ben wants to know that the coach wants him, knows his strengths and weaknesses, will help him get better and he'll be around good people, which is very important to him."

For all any of us know these guys that decommited had already planned on looking around. Im pretty sure I remember some people were floating decommit rumors on this forum before the old coach was fired ,and the new coach was in place. If we can upgrade on recruits thats what Iowa needs to do. I think our coach has shown these kids our commitment to them, they have shown their commitment (or lack of) to the UofI wish them the best. Iowa (fans, team, coaches) need to move on and focus on the players we have, and the players their going to sign.

Iowa's roster will look very different next fall than it does now. We will get some good players and you're going to like this tam.

FWIW, this is pretty telling.

Do you think there is any chance he recommits to Iowa? Has any recruit ever decommitted and then recommitted to the same school?

Yes, players decommit to recommit.

There is absolutely a chance. I'd give Brust's chance > than Larson's, for sure.

Fran is going to have to be prepared and have to get to work on them, though. When a guy like Ben, who was in love with the Iowa Hawkeyes, is looking around, then Fran will have to get at it.
