Brian Ferentz Speaking in Des Moines

He said our batting avg needs to improve.
That we need more home runs and less singles.
He said sometimes you have to bunt.

Most importantly (to me anyway) he said "y'all wanna HOA, I say **** that, **** that **** that"
oh and if your dog keeps running loose and shitting in my yard, I'm going to spray it with bear spray. :) (I'm not their neighbors, but those things play pretty close to my heart)

You forgot the part where he slammed his beer pitcher down before he started shouting about people not picking up after their dogs when they shit on his lawn. Pretty close rendition though.

B. Ferentz knows he was born into a good gig. I think he should take a HC job elsewhere to make his own way (to an extent).

I agree that him being a head coach will let him test his head coaching philosophy and learn from his mistakes and solidify what works for him. I would rather him be hired as the new head coach after he was a head coach than just get handed the keys to the Cadillac or rusty Dodge.

KF went to Maine to get 3 or so years of head coaching experience because you cant simulate it. Just like you shouldnt go from Captain to 3 Star General or salesperson to CEO.

The recent uptick in recruiting and improvements in social media has all Coincided with BF arrival and “moving” up the pecking order.

This new Iowa(I firmly believe this is the year we break out offensively) has BF fingerprints all over it. Im not against BF getting the keys if he/Iowa do what they should do this season. Go Hawks

But BF just cant be the de facto choice when that time comes. The hawks need to see and look at all candidates and coaches who might want to come here. What if the U of Virginia has a new younger head coach who has just been doing a great job for several years but who thinks Iowa is a place he wants to coach for a longer period, make a salary jump, and who thinks the Big 10 is the place for him and his family. Maybe this coach is super solid with a philosophy that the fans would enjoy. The AD would have to look at a coach like this.

While I agree with your post, keep in mind that Bob Stoops had no previous head coaching experience when he took the OU job. When Hayden retired and every hawk fan wanted Stoops to take over, nobody was saying that he needed to get some head coaching experience before taking the Iowa job.
