Brian Ferentz is a garbage coach

I'm not so sure about the 80%. I"d be surprised if Davis doesn't make a good run at him.

Davis is awful. But to be fair, him being the OC is on Kirk. I don't apologize for liking and respecting KF overall, but won't ignore or refute certain complaints about him that are warranted.

Greg Davis is/was the Texas problem right?

Isn't football the ultimate team game? I grow tired of all of these blame threads when the blame is on everyone for various reasons. It has been stated many times already this year that CJ has full go to call adjustments during the game. Maybe he is calling out of plays that would have worked? Maybe Davis is calling great plays, maybe both Ferentz's called perfect line plays but a lineman screwed up the call or missed seeing something. Didn't Wadley and Smith drop perfect balls thrown right at them? Did all teh guys make every lifting session? Where is the blame on them?

Hands down what I see as the major problem is lack of communication as to what is going well and what is not going well. The one thing I do place blame on is our tendencies as a program. As Hayden said you need to scratch where it itches. If a team makes us play "left handed" as KF said in the presser then what did we do to prepare for that or adjust to as a team? I would have no problem running or passing the ball 20 times in a row if they can't stop it. Look at NDSU's play. They couldn't pass well all game but why did they need to try when they ran all over us. They were not concerned with balance. I am looking forward to this week to see how they can bounce back.

To finish, the world is filled with negativity, whether it be in the press, at work, at home, wherever. I try to remember how great it is to be able to watch the games and enjoy football. I used to get worked up, throw things, and pissed when they lost but it got me nowhere. Now I turn on the TV and think of how lucky I am that I even get the opportunity to watch something like the Hawkeyes or college football in general. It's one game in a long season

TX fans would probably argue with all the talent they had, the reason for the losses were coaching/schemes. The old GD 3 yard pass on 3rd and 5

What is absolutely clear is that the GD marriage to KF scheme is borderline horrible. Last year we made some improvments I thought (until the last few games we seemed to struggle with our passing game)

But after last week's game, i feel like our offense has regressed.

Here's the coincidence that matters . . .

last year, a few new wrinkles . . .

this year, wrinkle-killing-contract is signed . . .

the next 10 years ???? . . . either very little . . . or ZERO innovation.

But . . . LOTS OF RAISES AND BEHIND THE SCENES EXTORTION. And lots of arguments between statists and meritocracy folks.

The good news. This insanely loyal fan-base will always get Iowa to a better bowl than anyone expected.

It's always fun to watch the ship-abandoners so their thing once the football team faces its first adversity.

I don't see people abandoning ship so much as a gut pain from the past causing anxiety. To go from feeling hopeless to last years unexpected (an maybe undeserved) specialnes is quite a swing. It wasn't even so much the loss. It was the "how the loss happened". It's like watching an old Soviet movie. The hero always dies and everyone files out speechlessly sad.

Also for all of us elderly ones, HF wasn't perfect but he got us to believe the Hawks could win about any game. He rarely if at all made excuses and threw people under the bus. The only time I can remember differently was dissing Vlasic when people were howling about long for a bit and that was saying his arm was so strong he over threw he targets in practice. Never did he put down Iowa except to say that Iowa just doesn't produce game changing speed locally (OK he overlooked Roger Craig, Banks, and Tim Dwight... But you get the idea.

I agree. It's not like KF didn't know about the extension before the season started.

We have seen next to nothing in terms of progression of last year. In fact, we've taken aspects away. No misdirection, counters, and less screens.

On defense no raider package.

Someone else on here made the angle that KF uses Iowa as a pipeline to the NFL. We only focus on techniques, and would explain why we do the same thing over and over.

When the heat was on him we switched a few things up, but even near the end of the year we started to revert back to old ways.

And why would our staff ever complain or leave? They get paid a lot of money to be teachers. Not schemers

One close loss against a very good team (a week after an emotional win against a hated archrival) and everyone jumps ship. Hilarious

I agree that the Hawks lacked innovation and KF and staff appeared to slip back into their comfort zones in terms of doing too much vanilla but the nastiness and helplessness expressed by some posters over one loss is pretty funny.

Kirk's offensive and defensive schemes = predictable

Some posters sky-is-falling-after-one-loss mentality = also predictable.

Talent level? 2 deep 4-5 start talent? Vince Young. Across the board on both sides if he ball. None of those records change the playcalling from Saturday and zero adjustments made. 35 yards rushing...we ran twice on the last series...

Iowa does not play any receivers that are explosive enough to create space or get down field. This has been the bane of Iowa offensive football for years. CJ would be a dangerous man with some good wide outs.
