Brian Ferentz is a garbage coach

Trust me they will lose at least 2 games this season. I've said it before but this isn't even close to their best team.

Not disputing that this is one of their best teams. What I'm saying is that regardless of how good they may/may not be it is questionable that the 5 time FCS champions could be among the best opponents we see in the regular season. Lets see how next week at Rutgers goes before we totally write this team off.

Edit: I think the majority of us thought this was a very good team that could win the west but may not have been good enough to win the BIG10 Championship or go to the Rose Bowl or even the playoffs. Truthfully at this point I'm not sure that loss on Saturday has convinced me that we can't still be a good team or have a shot at winning the west.

I'm going to let a few more games play out before throwing in the towel and calling this season a bust. Based on our schedule, I honestly can see NDSU being one of the 3-4 best teams we see on it this year.

Conservative, predictable formula (KF 1.0) on defense and offense works against the weaklings, but won't work against Minny, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska...and yes NDSU. Best open things up and play your best 22 or 7-5 is possible!

Agreed, but like I said, I'm still not entirely sold that Minny, Michigan, Wiscy, or Nebby are head and shoulders above NDSU's talent level. NDSU may also be more disciplined than the programs above.

Every coach at every level of football, if he's coached enough will have the position he's in charge of have a terrible game or three. Every head coach will have games in which his team is terrible. By the logic of the OP and others here, and judging by the amount of successful games B. Ferentz has coaches up his OL in proportion to his unsuccessful ones, every coach in history is garbage.

I bet there are a lot of times in the past that having the Ferentz last name has been of benefit to Brian but I'm certain singling him out as an assistant coach has much to do with his last name.

Why hasn't anybody called out the Defensive Line coach that allowed nearly 240 yds rushing and he had Hesse back so I think he had all his guys available to play.

I'm not here to defend Brian Ferentz as a coach because the truth is... I don't know enough about offensive line play and I'm nowhere close enough to the program to know if he does a good job teaching technique, motivation or recruiting. I do know we played a lot better prior to injuries, albeit weaker competition.

My original point is that he probably takes a lot more heat for sharing the last name as his father.

Why are so many so willing to call out the assistants, but yet not KF. Seems there is a common tie

Why is KF burdened with so many terrible and incompetent assistant coach's? Poor Kirk.

In our scheme, the defensive line isn't necessarily asked to make the tackle. Their primary job is to occupy blockers (and help set the edge in regards to the DEs) and ensure that the opposing blockers don't reach the 2nd level (linebackers), who are then free to roam and make the tackle. After 3 games, what I've seen is that team are having the most success running to the weakside of the formation, which is where Bower and Snyder are at. From what I'm seeing, those two are the weak links in our run defense.

The offensive line got owned in every way. Less than 2 yards a carry.

That's coaching and that's on Brian Ferentz.

I don't want his ass anywhere near the head job in the future.

We did have one long run that was negated because of a holding call.... a holding call that none of the replays and none of the announcers could see. The announcers were tripping all over themselves making excuses. That long run being negated was a back breaker. Two plays later CJ is hit from behind and throws an "interception" that was a Bison score. That's a 14 point swing.

Where this staff has failed is recruiting. How many OL first round picks do we produce? How many make NFL squads?

BF has coached with some amazing talent in the NFL, and his dad KF is widely considered a OL guru/genius. And I would agree with the latter, because we continue to take low ranked kids and turn them into millionaires.

But it never shows up on the recruiting trail. Why? Do we avoid the higher rankings out of pride that we can turn anyone into an NFL pick? The problem with our developmental method is we usually get 2-3 years of bad play before they figure it out. Imagine if we got more Bulugas, Reiff, and could even say Daniels for our starters instead of walk on QBs that take years versus stepping right in.

Oh, and we haven't figured out a damn blitz in ages. Every team knows eventually you can stall our offense with them

What the hell have you been reading? 80% of the coaching complaints I've seen have started with Kirk.

Wow over react much? He was down two starters one being center. It was one game. The same coach helped win 12 strait last yr and kill ISU just a week ago. I'm not jumping off the cliff today. Now I reserve the right to change mind depending where things go. But I'm not going to go psycho just yet....
Well, and in reality, LeGrands actually our 3rd team center, as Welsh is Daniels back-up. We didn't lose the game because of LeGrand.........

Well then what was it icky? You botched and moaned all summer that people are stupid because we questioned the hype for the OL.
I've never liked the Tackles much from the start, but I'm an idiot for even bringing it up right?
