Bret Bielema, Stoops Family and Ferentz

Why would Bielema, a wisconsin native, leave Madison for Iowa City? Smaller stadium, smaller town, smaller budget, smaller recruiting base.
Just 'cause he played for Iowa and has that stupid leg tattoo, doesn't mean he has a hardon to return to IC to coach teh Hawx. Dude has it made in Madcity.
Ditto Bob Stoops.
Get past it, dummies. Those two guys will NEVER be Iowa head coach.

The guy is set to make $2.5 million per year with $100k pay raise per year.

Ferentz makes $3.675 million per year with $250k annual pay raise.

I believe Ferentz buyout is around $4.5 million.

Thats $1.175 million per year plus another $150k in increase. Lets assume we can get Bielema for $3.25m per year with annual increase of $200k. The buyout would be paid for in less than 10 years.

Bielema is younger and better than Ferentz - neither of those can be disputed.

My number 1 choice is still the Stoops family (in its entirety). Make a run first at Bob Stoops, let him make the decision if he would like to reunite his family (Mark and Mike) at Iowa. If he does then get the damn deal done. If not, then we move on to Bielema.

Anybody that thinks that conversations and assurances wouldn't happen prior to releasing Ferentz just doesn't understand how this world works. There is no risk on Iowa's part to explore the options. If neither Stoops or Bielema are intersted then we retain Ferentz but with a stipulation - Replace O, D and Special Teams coaches. That alone would likely force Ferentz to resign and thus release Iowa of any buyout requirement.

+1

Bielema is from Illinois. Just sayin'.

This speculation is beyond ridiculous. Ferentz has done far more with the talent he has been given than most posters here give him credit for. His coaching presents more obvious flaws this year than it has in recent years because his Defensive Line is deficient in almost every area. Attrition has killed what could have been an otherwise excellent defense.

The point pertaining to conservatism leading to all of these losses is just plain foolish. "Biels lost his da*n games because he is far too aggressive, Dantonio goes downhill after starting successfully, Paterno is losing his touch...". All are valid complaints, but that sounds a hell of a lot like I've heard other teams complain about "incompetent" coaching after a bad loss. Each coach has his own strategies, and there are inherent downfalls to those strategies. 1 game=1game. The equation 1 game=entire season does not compute correctly. Disappointing as this is, I stand by Ferentz and the Hawks and I'm looking forward to next Saturday no matter what the case. Grow up and accept the fact that this team has the capability to lose to any team on any Saturday. This team still has the potential to make some noise though, and I for one will enjoy the ride no matter how bumpy it may be

Who in the **** do you think recruits this talent? Do you think it just shows up on the doorstep, all beaten up from working in the corn fields and rail thin from eating nothing but beans and rice and they say to the coach - give me a bed to rest my weary body and I will give you everything I have on the field?

THis point gets missed by most who have a tendency to support this charade. We have one of the TOP paid coaches in the country continuing a trend of delivering AVERAGE results and **** poor game planning. The commentators, opposing coaches and nearly every butt that is in the stands knows EXACTLY what we are going to run during EVERY situation.

This same coaching staff that seems to do more with less IS the coaching staff that delivers LESS every year in recruiting. Ferentz (and staff) are the guys who get the kids to sign on the dotted line. Why do they get a pass?

No way in hell Bob Stoops leaves OU for Iowa so you can throw out all the Stoops bros. coaching at Iowa.
So because Bob has arguably the best job in the country, Mike or Mark wouldn't come coach at Iowa? That makes no sense whatsoever. For the record, I don't even want Mike to be our head coach. But to say he wouldn't want to be simply because Bob isn't leaving OU is ridiculous. He may not want to coach at Iowa. But I would bet the farm that his reason isn't

I was referring to the package deal, all three coaching here at once. Bob is not leaving Norman.

Rediculus. Why would Beliema want to come back here. He has a good thing going in Madison and he is supposed to drop it for Iowa? Because he started here? Don't see it happening. Thats way out of left field.

$Money$ Are you saying that you wouldn't leave your current company, where you are having a good time and things seem to flowing in the right direction, for a 40% pay raise?
