BREAKING NEWS - Iowa offense now last in the country in YPG

They do try to be that bad. It's by design. They'd rather punt and pin, force the TO, and work with the short field. If the defense and kicking weren't this good you would see a different offensive approach-and more offense.

I'd like to believe it but I don't. Kirk isn't that dynamic.

Time to scratch where it itches, unleash the pent up anguish and frustration of a long crippled, struggling offense, and take a peek at the most exciting one to date, episode 3 of the Legend of Deacon Hill!

Go Hawks!

I'd like to believe it but I don't. Kirk isn't that dynamic.
With the plays they call when they think they have enough points it's like Kirk doesn't even want his offense on the field.

He'd rather have defense out there with the other team five area codes away from the end zone and count the clock down that way. It's the football equivalent of the rope-a-dope and more often than not it's effective. It's just maddening to watch. We lose the time of possession battle almost every game and somehow make it work much of the time.

Can you imagine what our offensive output would be if we traded places with Auburn and had a conference schedule that included Bama, Georgia, and LSU every freaking year? Games like that one we played against LSU when they had OBJ or the Hawkslayer Bowl would be happening every other week. I'll bet that we could get dangerously close to not breaking 200 YPG average over the course of a full season.
I’m not sure what your point is here. Playing bad teams doesn’t make you better. Recruiting, coaching, developing makes you better. Scheduling has never been about making you better. They are completely separate arguments

Since Hill has taken over, the Hawks have 11 offensive scoring drives (across just under 3 games). All of the drives that started within the opponents' 40 yd line (essentially within FG range) are bolded.

MSU:
5 plays, 80 yards, 13 yd TD pass to All
4 plays, -5 yds, 53 yd FG
7 plays, 20 yds, 36 yd FG
6 plays, 14 yds, 34 yd FG

Purdue:
2 plays, 80 yards, 67 yd TD run K. Johnson
4 plays, -4 yards, 27 yd FG
9 plays, 75 yds, 23 yd FG
6 plays, 46 yds, 22 yd TD pass to All

Wisconsin:
3 plays, 90 yds, 82 yd TD run L. Williams
6 plays, 28 yds, 48 yd FG
5 plays, 17 yds, 40 yd FG

In addition to all of those drives that began in FG range, our punt return team scored a TD and our defense scored a safety.

If we attribute those short scoring drives to the D/ST, then those units have earned us 24 points over those 3 games (8 pts/game). Our offense has earned us 34 points (11.3 pts/game).

On some disturbed level of consciousness Brian has to figure out how to average 35.8 points per game over the last 5 games to reach 325. Currently he's at the 20.8 points per game average. If Iowa can manage to get to a 25 point per game average over the next 5 games they most likely win all 5 games. They have only managed to do it twice this season.

Breaking News. - Iowa is now all alone in first place in the Big Ten West.
Don't worry. The nancies are already thinking about how much misery the next month is going to be as they anticipate "the beating of our lives" in Indy in early December.

I don't know how they even call themselves fans, yet alone enjoy their lives.

I would love the team to finish 12-1 and ranked around or in the top 10. I don't want to see them play Michigan, Ohio or UPenn again. We're just not there right now. I was also opposed to Iowa playing Miami in non-conference games back in the early '90's for the same reason. Namely, I don't like seeing Iowa get smoked by multiple TDs.

I want them to play the extra game. Things happen sometimes in those scenarios, if they get smoke they get smoked it goes down as an L whether it’s close or not.

You're right, I need to be more positive. By early December The Germ and flu season will be kicking in. Imagine if Michigan got in and was missing two thirds of their starters due to illness and Iowa beat their backups 11-10 behind 3 FGs and a safety to finish out 12-1 in the worst game in the history of modern college football. Boy, the CFP people would be big mad.

Of course there is still plenty of football to be played. We haven't by any means punched our ticket to Indy. Consider:

The history or our rivalry with Minnesota would suggest they are overdue for a win. We are on an eight game heater in the battle for the dirty 'Dale and I guarantee there have not been too many that length or longer on either side. NEVER sleep on the rodents.

Rutgers looks like a tougher game now than it did a month ago. They could ugly it up. Fortunately so can we.

Nebraska is lurking and that seems to be one team that knows how to attack a Parker defense. Until last year we benefitted from turnovers and general bone head play. We need that version of Nebraska to return.

Weird things can happen Thanksgiving week. Two years ago all Wisconsin needed to win the west was to beat Minnesota. They stumbled and opened the door for us to play the fighting Harbaughs.

One bright spot is our inaugural appearance at Wrigley Field. Kirk, being a fan of baseball scores,:) should feel right at home.

The Iowa Hawkeyes went on the road and beat Wisconsin with punting, defense and 2 catches from wide receivers. Kirk Ferentz is simultaneously on the hottest and coldest seats in college football thanks to his 6-1 record, yet having an offense so bad that
