BREAKING NEWS - Iowa offense now last in the country in YPG

It would be.....
If there weren't only 24 teams with worse offensive scoring averages than Iowa.
So, counting ties,
There are 104 of 130 teams that are better at scoring than Iowa. And they all do it with presumably longer fields.

Of note, there are two teams tied at 21.8 points per game:
Iowa and.....
Iowa State

Also of note:
Big 10 West teams with fewer than 21.8 points per game:
MN: 21.7
MSU: 21.7
Indiana: 20.8
Illinois: 19.2
Nebraska 19.2

Also also of note:
Wisconsin is at 31.4, roughly 50th in rank.
MSU and Ind are in the east but it's still amazing think about. Iowa is 3rd or 4th in the Big Ten West in points per game

It should be hard to finish last... You almost have to try to be this bad with how the rules are. You can accidently get 1st downs and move the ball if you're throwing it often enough to draw penalties from the defense. I doubt penalty yards count towards that stat but it wouldn't matter we don't benefit from that hardly either.

The combination of scheme/personnel, situational play calling it all factors. And BF takes the cake. It should've been really tough to be as bad as they were last yr but instead we are worse and there's little hope of that changing as the weather turns and schedule gets tougher. Yippy skippy

Over under 200 yards against Wisky? 150? What would it take to win? More than we are capable of is my guess.
They do try to be that bad. It's by design. They'd rather punt and pin, force the TO, and work with the short field. If the defense and kicking weren't this good you would see a different offensive approach-and more offense.

I think this stat is misleading. No one has better punting, a better defense, or a better punt returner than Iowa. We're always working with such short fields which limits our yards and makes our offense look bad. Give us a worse defense, punter, and returner and we'd be right up there in the top 50 for sure.
Bingo! Been saying it for two and a half years.

For a team that is 5-1, this feels like 0-6. All the negativity has sucked the joy out of winning football games. If Iowa ends up 10-2 or 5-7, the program is definitely at a crossroads.

That is why I mostly stay away from these forums (stop by for some chuckles every now and again), and I don't watch games with anyone who takes the outcome too seriously. I spend much of the games laughing in disbelief, but at least I am not crying. I find joy in them being able to pull out these improbable victories in the face of offensive incompetence, but that excitement of cheering for what could be a special team/season has long since left the building.

Just wow

This tells us what the perception has been for years…the b10w sucks. Their offense’s definitely suck which means our defyis good, but it’s certainly aided dearly by the b10w.

I can’t believe a fan base sitting around talking about this crap and having good humor over it.

Can you imagine what our offensive output would be if we traded places with Auburn and had a conference schedule that included Bama, Georgia, and LSU every freaking year? Games like that one we played against LSU when they had OBJ or the Hawkslayer Bowl would be happening every other week. I'll bet that we could get dangerously close to not breaking 200 YPG average over the course of a full season.

No, I think last year we finished second to last. We're currently sitting at about 250 YPG and many of the teams near that bottom of the list were rent-a-victims for several weeks to open the season and now are facing materially worse competition while we are facing better competition than what we saw in the non-con slate that skewed our results upward. Plus the weather will get worse. With remaining games against Wisconsin and Nebraska, I'm not certain we will materially outperform our current average. I cannot believe it is this bad at the midpoint of the damned season.

It's better than sitting here bitching about it..or working.
I get it. Then again that’s what most sports forums are about. It’s an easy way to vent out frustrations.

I also get Fryowa’s points from time to time in that no one really cares about our opinions on this forum. Hopefully his opinions that Kirk doesn’t even care about what the fans think either. If true, is it worth eight or nine wins a year to keep a coach that only cares about getting his pockets lined with seven million a year and who doesn’t give a crap about the fans base? This seems like a bad fruitcake full of bad nuts.
