Branstad not interested in opening beer tap at Kinnick Stadium

You know this is coming down the road. It may not be next year or the year after, but you know this is coming. Too much money being left on the table. I agree with OK4P, if beer is in the stadium I would pace myself tailgating knowing I can wrap my hands around a brew inside. Charge $8 for beer and that will take care of the potential for problems with the students. There is a right way to do this.

Correct. I slam beers outside to keep my buzz going inside. It would cut back on that dramatically.

Not much would change if they went to selling beer inside Kinnick. Most people are still going to do a majority of their drinking outside due to the tailgate atmosphere and also to save some green. Why pay $7.50 inside Kinnick for a 16oz domestic beer when $7.50 can get me a six pack outside?

They (the stadium powers) should be trying to promote a family atmosphere. It's bad enough now with the crowded restrooms, idiots trying to start fights, drunks passing out, loud obnoxious superfans etc. Add beer sales and it's more trouble.

they'd have to change the legal drinking age to like 30 for this to work maybe higher otherwise it would be a **** show

If a person can't go 3 hours without drinking beer, then it probably isn't a good idea to allow him to buy it during the game.

There are enough idiots in the stands as it is....no need to exacerbate it with beer sales.

This is a football game we are talking about right? Not church...

Drunks have always been around and now people act like it is something new.

I think a lot of people sneak in hard liquor in flasks or the airline-sized bottles now. They either drink them straight or mix them with soda that they purchase in the stadium. Therefore, people are drinking during the game even if it is technically against the stadium rules currently.

I have mixed feelings on this and am more against it now that I am older and have children. However, in times of tight budgets, it is a big untapped source of revenue. I agree with another poster that they should look at other schools that have added beer sales and see what the impact on arrests, fights, alcohol related incidents, etc. during the first 2 or 3 seasons the sales were allowed.

Do not do this. It is already difficult to listen to some fans wisdom in the stadium. The Soldier Field scenario is exactly what I hate about this. Fights. Idiots. Maybe the majority on her can get a buzz, and act respectable, but do you really want to take the chance on selling beer to "superfan"?

WHAT'D I DO TO YOU?! :D

This is what's keeping us in the number 2 spot for party schools. Terry needs to see the rankings and push us into the top spot. I'd love to see the police blotter if they sold beer in Kinnick.

So that makes it ok?

Murderers have been around forever too. Maybe we should make it OK to kill people.

Just because it has "always been around" doesn't mean it is fine to make it worse.

Yes, it may be a case of *We're still #2.. so we try harder!*

The revenue that would be made through beer sales really isn't that big. Most schools that sale beer only make between $600,000 to $1 million. And for a AD's budget similar to Iowa, it's really not that big. Don't forget that added security that would need to be hired to help the situation.
