Brandon Snyder OWI

For what?
Bogus reasons as I listed above, being on the road at the wrong time of night. They love to profile. Another time I got pulled over on Kimball road for going over the speed bumps too fast - but was doing 20 max. They seriously make shit up. It's been probably 7 or 8 years since I've been pulled over but I have kids now and am not on the road between 1-2 am.

I get anxiety whenever I see cops on the road and knowing I've done nothing wrong.

I'll second that PS. I did not routinely drink and drive, but did it a few times. Knowing I was not in the best shape made me extra careful. There are times I have been very drowsy while driving that I have actually been more dangerous.

Being extra careful when compromised? Drowsy driving is dangerous, but it has not business being used as an excuse to make sure you are extra careful or using judgement not to drive when intoxicated. I understand that mentality is out there, but it not comprehensible except for those making excuses.

Others drinking had a profound impact on my life. Your premise doesn't hold an validity in terms of drunk driving.

Whatever. Your random 25-45 year old male at .12 BAC is a materially safer driver than a 70+ year old person, a sub 19 year old person, and most female drivers. You know it, I know it.

Not to make light of drunk driving and not sure why you made this comment on this thread, but it got me to thinking.

The best drivers I know are above 45 and into their 80s. as one passes mid 70s the issues with health impact do come into play for some. I cringe at 90s people driving, but I know of a couple who are quite good at it, but still...

Have kids from 30 to 15. As a group they were much poorer at picking up driving than older generations. Decrease in farm population is a part of that. Plus kids rode in the front years before. Kids previously drove more than now.

One of my kids at 22 is what I consider a good safe driver who is almost as comfortable to ride with as my wife who is an excellent driver. My oldest daughter was terrible but after 25 and having a child she is pretty darn good now. She couldn't recognize danger before it occurred. My 20 year old is not allowed to drive my car much without me in it. My wife won't ride with her at all. My oldest and middle one make me nervous. However, none of us have had tickets excepting my oldest daughter who totaled my car the weekend after I took off collision insurance. She was texting.

The age group from 25 to 45 seem to me to be the biggest violators of texting/talking and driving.

Whose car were you driving over speed bumps at 20 mph? Not yours? :) I probably would have stopped you too.

That said, my dad was a cop and a farmer. Bad attitudes and harassment do in fact exist from officers.

Saw a IC officer harassing a college aged young person in downtown who looked a bit unkempt and had a back pack. Stopped him and went through his stuff. The attorney I was with said some unkind things to the officer. The kid was totally minding his own business.

So I doubt if he was drinking alone. Sounds like his friends (teammates?) let him down by letting him drive.

Full disclosure: I got an OWI when I was 18 or 19. Dumb.

It wasn't the police. It wasn't my friends. It was my fault.

Knowing Brandon, I'm guessing he's looking at it the same way. As others have said, he's lucky and needs to learn from it. I would expect at least a one-game suspension to go with it.

You've been lucky then, I had one speeding ticket when I was 18 - no other traffic violations but have been pulled over at least 20 separate times. Born and raised in IC.

I'm going to guess most of these pullovers were after 11:00 p.m.? See my other post.

In he end it is his responsibility. Iowa City is a pretty easy city to walk home to most places. In addition has a couple choices for rides such as NiteRide or cabs. But, I was once young too.

1) Point #1 - You outgrew the profile which kinds of supports your point.

2) Point #2 - You have nothing to worry about if you aren't doing anything wrong. Try & RELAX!. Maybe do a one-hitter or something to help.

I couldn't help but think of Tyler Sash when I first read this. Not that college age kids need any reason to use really poor judgement, because I sure did a few times, but do we know if Brandon has suffered any concussions during his career? It would be remarkable if he has not, given this point in his career which includes high school and prior years obviously. I mean we can have this conversation now, correct? No more elephant in the room?

It appears he was in multiple bars and drinking heavily. Too bad he didn't have a buddy helping him out.

Hope he learns from it and stays healthy. Sounds like he worked really hard to get back on the field.

I don't think he was saying it was alright because he was extra careful. What I read between the lines is that he was merely stating what may have been going thru his mind at that age. Not sure, though.

Sorry about what seems to have happened in your family or life sec to a DD. It is one thing to injure or kill oneself when doing something stupid, it is completely different when killing or injuring an innocent bystander.

I had friends who insisted that they drive, regardless of how drunk they were. I was quick to give up the keys, often without anyone asking me to.

I had no premise and I was not trying to justify it. I was young and stupid. Only happened a couple times.
