Brady Reiff Arrested?

I’m a teetotaler. My thoughts:

I don’t see this as a big deal if it’s first offense and he wasn’t bothering anyone.

Run steps and pick up trash and move on. I don’t think a suspension is necessary if qualifiers above aren’t crossed.

The mindset of some kids surprises me. It probably shouldn't anymore as often that do it but when I try to put myself in a D1 football players position (or any D1 athlete on scholarship for that matter but especially one where a possible million dollar pro career is possible) I just can't see myself drinking at all. Their bodies are their temple and taking care of it to the Nth degree should be their priority. I'm not saying I'd never ever have a donut or cupcake but it'd a pretty rare thing and alcohol would be totally cut out. As hard as they work to get where they are I just would want to maximize whatever potential I had. It wouldn't even be just about not getting in trouble as obvious of a reason as that should be to not do it.

That's perfectly logical.

I didn't have that kind of logic when I was 22.

Brady, Let me help you out when you meet with Coach Ferentz and Coach Parker. First off, start with how hard you are working in summer workouts. Second, let them know you miscalculated how dehydrated your body had become after the intense summer workout yesterday. When you began to share a few celebratory drinks with friends and family (it was your grandmothers 80th birthday or something)...the alcohol had a enhanced effect due to the weakened state of your system.

In effect...since you are so intent on making improvements this summer and have been pushing yourself to new heights...the program is really to blame for your public intoxication. Since that has now been established...let them know you do not intend to go to trial and embarrass the University. You will shoulder full responsibility.

Let me know how it goes. I guarantee the suspension will be only one game with this strategy.

Here’s UI release:

IOWA’S REIFF CITED FOR LEGAL ISSUE

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - University of Iowa football student-athlete Brady Reiff was cited for public intoxication in Iowa City.

“We are aware of the incident and are currently gathering additional facts,” said Gary Barta, the Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair. “Brady is subject to the rules and regulations of the UI Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, and the rules and regulations of coach Kirk Ferentz and his program.”

Reiff WAS a junior defensive tackle from Parkston, South Dakota.

They should make his mug shot the one for the Iowa media guide and game day programs, that will teach him.....

Remember this? His own son didn't miss a game and it was his second offense. Check out Kirk's statement when he reinstated all three of them...

("Ferentz, 19, was heard yelling and observed stumbling upon contact with a police officer, according to the complaint. His blood-alcohol level was .16, more than twice the legal limit for an impaired driver.

This is Ferentz’s second alcohol-related arrest. Last fall he pled guilty to underage possession of alcohol in University Heights. He was fined $314.")

(Remember that whole debate over whether James Ferentz and his band of vaguely thuggish-looking friends should be excommunicated from the program for being wicked drunk, breaking a parking lot gate, and starting a fight with an off-duty cop? Well, The Decider has weighed in. Per ESPN.com:

The son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz and two other Hawkeyes players have been reinstated after being suspended in April....

"I'm just hoping we can all move on here," Kirk Ferentz told reporters Wednesday in Iowa City. "This has hardly been the crime of the century. For that to make front-page news in a major publication, it's a great state we live in.")

Damn cut the kid some slack. Nothing to see here, is it really news worthy? I agree with KF For this to be front page fodder, it's a great state we live in.

I could be wrong but I think tk is referring to Kirk's quotes of the James Ferentz situation and not Reiff's.

You're doing it wrong!

He's going to catch a lot of crap from the other players for how he was arrested. Cop car drove up and he tried to get in twice, mistaking it for an uber ride. Managed to finally get his ride, to the police station.

I don't care how trashed you are. Don't try to get into the cop car.

I thought cops were supposed to "serve & protect"

You think any Iowa journalists will call out this obvious hypocrisy?
