Boylen!

I'll research just what kind of inquiries Memphis and Arizona made...interesting that those names were brought up

14-17 in is third year with the Utes. In the Mountain West. I could not be excited about that. May be a great coach but not what I washoping for.

Oh yippeee. A guy coming off a losing season at Utah. REALLY!? Please Jon, say it aint so. We have to do better than this.

I'd be curious to hear more information on Boylen. He has a nice resume, a long history in the coaching business in diverse jobs. I like coaches who have worked in numerous different jobs, it gives them different perspectives, experiences, and networks. Whereas Lick had only been involved in one single program. Also Boylen has been able to cut his teeth as being a head coach for a couple of years. He seems like a "Big 10" kind of coach. His record this year is a bit of red flag, but that is only one piece of information. I'd be curious to know why the record decreased? And one bad year doesn't per se make a man a bad coach.

With all that said I'm sure most people on here will go bat sh*t crazy if he is hired.

His credentials look fairly impressive other than that 14-17 record in his 3rd season. Does anyone have any insight into why they slipped so far from a stellar year 2? A rebuilding year perhaps?

Please, not Boylen.

I will be convinced that Barta is out of his league if this hire happens.

For those worried about anyone's record last year, go look up Tom Davis' record at Stanford prior to being hired at Iowa. A friend of mine pointed this out to me.

Regarding the Arizona job, I do believe that Arizona was headed his way much to the chagrin of the Wildcat fans. This was after Miller turned them down one day deciding to stay at Xavier , but changed his mind the next day and took the job. A huge sigh of relief was felt from Tuscon!

I think he would be a great hire. Going strictly from memory I want to say his team had some significant injuries. I saw his team a couple of times and I like how they play. He has a variety of experiences as has been pointed out. One good season shouldn't get somebody a new coaching job and one bad season should not disqualify them either. I like getting somebody off the Izzo tree.

Perhaps they missed a recruiting class the year he was hired.

I don't understand the angst over the so called mid-major coaching candidates. There are plenty of guys out there who can coach. Would I love to see Bruce Pearl? Yes. Do I think some of these guys could help us win and rebuild Hawkeye basketball? Yes.

Lets assume that hes the guy for a minute. He makes $850,000 now per the article. Does he need to get more than $1.2M that Lick was getting to come? If this is it, I hope they dont overpay to get him.

The reason there is so much angst is we have been burned by the last two mid-major coaches. Most people would have been fine with Barbee because he showed improvement each of his four years at UTep. Boylen had a losing record last year at utah. At Utah. IF he had a losing record in the big east like Keno did this year, that is one thing. The big east and big ten are slightly different than the MWC. Most of us are just skeptical of a mid-major coach unless he is a stud recruiter or shown a strong record of consistently winning or improvement each year. I for one would be fine with Gregg Marshall of Wichita State for example.

No one can compete with Alford's Lobos in the MWC.
